Is this the kind of fixture i need for a 36 inch UVB bulb??

That will work but it seems like it may be "overkill". From the description, it seems to be water resistant and more used for aqariums. Do you have a major hardware retailer where you are? You may want to check there as well.

i'm trying to find one online cos i live in the isle of man which is just offshore from england so my choices are limited. trouble is i can't find a UK website with fittings as cheap as the ones you guys in the US get for a few dollars. do i need a 30w fitting for a 36inch bulb? can anyone recommend a UK site??

The link you showed before hand is the one I use, its been fine
