Looked back at your first post, if your tank is 3 feet long you want a light that matches that length. You need a 36in light.

You would not put a 3' light in a 3' tank it wouldnt fit. Some 3' tanks are actually smaller when measured from the inside, and the fixture itself is a bit bigger then the bulb. In a 3' tank youd be looking at 2/3rd the tank size which would be a 24" fixture. You can pick one up for under $10 at walmart.
