Question about these water crystals; are they consumed of do they just dry up until rehydrated? The way it sounds it seems like they just dry up until you get them wet again. If so, it seems like they would last virtually forever. I've been considering buying bulk crickets and this seems like the most logical route for watering the crickets. Flukers and other products for feeding/watering insects sound promising but just aren't economical.

They do dry up and can be rehydrated, but they get contaminated with frass, molts, food, etc.
Eventually it has to be thrown out and replenished with new crystals. Keeping the water crystals away from the edges of the bin and nothing above it help it stay fresh longer. Away from the edges gives the insects room to go around and not through if they want to.
Keeping it clear above prevents anything from falling in.

Cool, thanks. I understand that they would get contaminated with bacteria and what not and eventually need to be replaced. But I take it a 1lb bag goes a long way. I'm doing research now trying to find the best price versus reliability of cricket suppliers. I figure I'll start with 1000 crickets since that's about all I can house at the moment. With one beardie I think that will keep him fed for a while. One thing that sucks is it seems to cost as much to ship the bugs as it does to purchase them. I'm in the wrong business! lol

Want some good advice, get rid of the crickets and try dubias. They are easy to breed too. I haven't paid for feeders for years and I'm make a few bucks selling them too.

Roaches are out of the question. I considered them to but if the Apt. complex management found out I had roaches me and my Beardie would be out on the street. I know, Dubias are not the type of roach to infest but they don't understand that. A roach is a roach.

What brand is sold at HD? I went online and couldn't find them. I also stopped in and they knew what I was talking about but they said they didn't carry them. They had some soil with the crystals, but not the crystals themselves.

I looked online too but could only find the "salt" stuff. I wonder what it's called. Or maybe if a nursery or like would carry them?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
