This is so sad. I live in CT, and decieded to call anyways. He was not interested in shipping the Beardie that far, but I did find out some info. He gave me his email address and is interested in doing the right thing. He adopted this beardie and a female a few weeks ago from an older lady. She gave them both (male and female 3 yrs old) to him housed together and insisted that they have always been housed together. He said that the male shows signs of aggression and head bobs (which he has 2 children and worries about). I explained to him that 2 beardies should never be housed together (even if it has been ok in the past) let alone a female and male (with the exception of responsible breeding). He was told the famle has never laid egss (which I explained there is a possiblity that they both are males- who knows). I asked about lighting and temperatures, and he has a UVB that they came w/ and 2 red bulbs. I told him that they need bright white light for basking and to not use the red bulbs at night either (throw them in the trash). So, although everyone may want to flip out on this guy, he seems nice and like he just needs some knowledge that he didn't have before adopting them. He gave me his email, and I told him I will send him alot of information and I recommended he check out this website - because I explained how much you have all helped me. He said if he can figure out how to change the beardies behavior he'd love to keep him - and he is willing to get another cage so that they are not housed together. I am hoping that sending him information will help, and maybe he can be a good owner if given the chance (I'm going to try to educate him, that's all I can think of at this time). I'll let you all know if I hear back from him.

Thanks Lance. Like I said, he seems like he didn't realize that there is alot of care that goes into owning a beardie and much information needed before jumping in. I have a feeling he may try to change all this with some information and alittle patience. I guess my worry is the fact that for 3 years this woman has not given them bright light and who knows if they have been getting calcium, etc. Well, all we can hope is that from this day forward James (that's his name) will take this information and make some educated decisions. I would have loved to take this little guy, but it seems he thought it would be too stressful to mail him so far (which means he has some feelings for this beardie already). Who knows- maybe he'll join this site and we'll all be able to help.

That's good that he seems willing to learn, I've seen far too many people come into the store that I work in and not care about their dragon, they just want it as a cool accessory that they bought off of a person. Hope he joins!

Hey everyone...
I just wanted to give you all an update. James called me and he was contacted by a family who rescues Beardies in the Green Bya area, and they picked up the male beardie today. He said they gave him some more info on Beardies and he feels like it went to a good home. He made alot of possitive changes already by getting rid of the red bulbs and getting a 100wt white bulb for the basking area. He also changed to slate tile from the sand he was using. He named his female beardie Precious and also joined this site. Here is the link he posted...

If you guys get a chance maybe you can stop over there and give him a big "WELCOME"... because it would be nice to let him know we are all here to help. I love when you see someone wanting to do the right thing, and James deffinately seems like a good guy wanting to do all he can for his Beardie.
I guess the lesson for me in this is: Things aren't always as bad as they seem. When reading the Craig's List post someone may just assume he's a bad guy who doesn't care about his pet- I'm glad I learned the truth.

Me too. Thanks for calling him. When I saw this - it was late last night. I was gonna call today. At least he's not going to a shelter. The thing looked like he needed some help :(. Maybe I'll give him a call. It might make it easier to someone closer for everyone. Thanks everyone for the help Liz Update I wonder if it was ez2bbad64 that picked him up. She's the only one I know around here that does things like that. I first presume that it is lack of knowledge that causes cases like this.

i am the one who adopted the male beardie. the man i got him from was very nice just doesent know too much about them. we gave him some tips on beardie keeping and an extra tile we had left from our cages i think hes going to go with a all tile set up on the floor.he deffinatly seemed to care for the beardies and the male is not agressive at all just territorial with another beardie.has been fine here so far in our care as long as he does not see another beardie. he just LOVES his bath! he desperatly tried to get to the water while i filled the tub and has been laying there all pancaked out enjoying the warm bath! i think the old owner will be a good beardie owner to the remaining beardie he just needs to learn about them and he seems very willing to do so. i am glad he joined this site

my kids want to call him mr.krabbs like from spongebob.heres some pics i took of him this morning he is 18 1/4" long and about 300 grams he is to wiggly to get a good reading on the scale! he needs some work as you can see. hes a sweet dragon but gets really upset if he as much as sees another dragon.i am hoping some time and good food he will calm down a bit on that. i suspect they were fed together and may have had spats over food because thats when he really got upset is when he could see the others and his food was offered to him.he turned his beard black as coal and hovered over his food as if he was gaurding it.

Oh my those poor things. Its wonderful to read though that the owner really did want to do the right thing. Hopefully both beardies will make a great and speedy recovery!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
