Tail Shed

Freddie just WON'T shed his tail. Should I go ahead and buy some shed-ease, or wait? I am also getting a ReptiSun 10.0 in a few days, which my god-awful UVB right now will be replaced by. Will that be the fix?

I bought some Zoo Med shedding aid. It hasn't affected it at all. I gave him a bath just now and gave him a little more. IDK what's going on.

We just went through this. We sprayed his tail with the shed aid once. Then we just bought a really soft baby toothbrush and massaged his tail in his daily bath. Saw progress in about 2 days :)

I was scared about my dragon too because I thought she shed her body twice and her tail still hasent shed but just the other day if finally shed .. I just kept giving her baths, I was about to try a soft brush but I came home and noticed some started to flake off so I gave her another bath and most of it is off now.

I'd just give him baths daily and at least soak his tail for 10-15 at a time. I wouldn't really worry unless you see the point where the shed is start to constrict and his tail starting to look "weird". They can take a couple weeks to shed sometimes and it will come in patches. Harley just shed her head and front arms and that took around 2 weeks. Before that she shed half her tail, then the other half and her body with rear legs. They aren't like snakes where they shed all at once and in 1 piece(assuming humidity is correct). Anyways, just keep an eye on it, soak him(tail mostly) daily and maybe just rub it a little, kind of like massage to maybe help loosen it. Good luck.

Still hasn't shed. I've tried warm baths, Shed-Ease, and the toothbrush. Nothing is even working. Now, it's just a very bright white color on his tail. His back varies in between gray and white.

I'd just wait, it can take a week or 2 for them to shed. As long as it doesn't look like it's pinching the tail or weird, it will come off when it's ready.

It's been a month, should I worry?

My guy has been trying to shed his back for over three weeks. If it worries you, you can apply 100% cocoa butter to the problem areas before the lights go out for the night. It has to be 100% cocoa butter though. Usually comes in a stick.

How does the tail look? A mod here suggested the cocoa butter. Worked wonders. It was diamc.

I don't have a picture of the tail right now, cause I am not at home, will be later today. It is a very light white color. I will see if I can get ahold of some cocoa butter.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Like I said, as long as it doesn't look constricted or dead colored or shriveling up(basically anything that looks out of the normal) then i'd just let him shed it on his own. The cocoa butter works too but you really want them to learn how to shed themselves. The tail is usually the easy part I've noticed on Harley. She just slaps her tail around when the shed starts to crack and off pieces fly. The tip is the only part that you might have to worry about sometimes. Anyways good luck.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
