Has anyone used a Tetrafauna Reptoheat Dual Temp Basking Heater? I was wondering if it was strong enough to heat my 40 gallon tank or if I would still need to have a heat lamp to keep my beardie warm enough...Thanks.

a 10 dollar dome fixture and a 5 dollar bulb seem like a better investment to me at 70 bucks. Plus that doesn't output any light, which means your tank will be missing key spectra that a visible light would provide.

I don't have any personal experience with that product, but i'd go with the other option.

I'm trying to avoid a dome fixture so I can take my beard dragon up to school. I was told the dome light would be considered a hazard because the kids could burn themselves on it. I would also use a UVB for light. I have been trying to figure out how to get him up to school with me for a few weeks now but I am about to give up hope.

In my opinion he would be better left at home-- you cant trust kids - even the older ones - my daughter brought our first bearded dragon home from high school for the summer and she said the boys were wanting to put pencil erasers in her ears- she stopped them - but still just my opinion

Oh I see, I forgot about your other thread.

Well, it would work I suppose. Even with the uvb bulb though there will be a lot of the light spectrum missing. Believe it or not but the incandescents actually do a good job of filling in missing spectra that the uvb bulb is lacking. This combo helps get closer to the spectra of sunlight. However I suppose if your classroom has some natural light coming in, it would be ok on a temporary basis.

Were you thinking you weren't going to build your own wooden enclosure? That would solve the lamps being accessible to the kids.
