Open mouth?

So lately my dragon keeps sitting under his heat lamp with his mouth open. I know they do this when they are hot.. but when I put him on the cooler side of the tank, he just moves back over to his rock and does it again..? why?

its normal. He is just trying to regulate his heat. Its like sweating. If he is too hot he will move away from his basking spot. It is totally normal and means that his body is working perfectly.
Just be sure that his basking temp is no more than 110f. Also i would swap his red lamp for a normal white/yellow bulb to replicate the sun. dragons associate heat to light

thanks! the red is only temp. my bulb broke and the store only had red. getting a new one this weekend! thanks though! glad to know hes alright.
