Hey All
Does anyone know of any lizards that are known to be just as docile and tame as beardies? I hear mixed reviews of different species but nothing definite. Any help would be great!
Thank you

I have an alligator lizard that has such a sweet personality that can compete with my sweetest dragon.

I think Uromastyx (sp?) are pretty mellow kinda like beardies. I don't own one, but if someone does and I'm wrong please correct me

My experts say Blue Tongued Skink would be perfect.
Let us know what your opinion is please and not your "experts" since you are the one on here. I would be more interested in what you think instead.

Blue tongues are not as docile as a beardie. They are easy enough to handle if you get a captive bred baby but for the most part, they really don't like to hang out with their owner.
I've had my bluey for a few months now, definitely a neat lizard but I was disappointed in the personality.

My leopard gecko is a snoozer compared to my beardie! He walks around his tank with grace and purpose while the beardie flies around like a kid in a candy store! They're both plenty interesting in their own ways, but the leo is certainly the "calmer" of the two.

Also, I've been looking at some info regarding Chinese Water Dragons as I'm interested in a tropical reptile for something a bit different from my desert guys, and everything I've read so far says they also have good dispositions. Can't speak from experience on that one though.

Good luck!

I disagree. And I'm replying to this because if I was researching BTSs and I somehow came to this thread, it would kind of be a downer to see this and think I'll never get a nice skink. It's a fact that there are beardies that never "tame down." There are exceptions everywhere. =) I have two tokay geckos(that are supposed to be "the pit bulls of the gecko world") that would not bite me if I poked and prodded them. I have one crested(supposed to be extremely nice lizards) that will try to rip my finger off if I handle it any way that it doesn't like.

In my opinion, if you want a "tame" or "docile" lizard, you have to work for it. Beardies sometimes may be laid back and very tolerant of us when we first get them, but we still have to establish a relationship with them. If you get a new beardie, more often than not will they show a defensive behavior. Biting might not be their first defense like others, but they still need time to tame down. Which takes time and patience in some cases, just like any animal. =)

I have a few more suggestions. If there aren't space, money, or time issues(the bigger ones take A LOT out of a person), I've heard of different species of monitors, big or small, being really great pets. Also there are tegus, all sorts of skinks, leachianus geckos, and other kinds of "larger" lizards that can be quite the pet. =)

I agree! Really neat lizard but although handleable they are far from being equal in temperment then beardies. They are fairly easy to handle and not very likely to bite however in my experiences require much more effort in socialization to get a behavior even close to that of a beardie.

Our leopard geckos and crested geckos were extremely docile. Although one of my leos, Oscar, was just a grump. It was his personality. But my special favorites were my cresties. They were very sweet and very easy to handle. Although they are nocturnal so if you want an animal you can watch during the day they might not be the best choice.

Lol. I love how this guy owns experts. But i disagree, i once owned a blue tongue skink and while it was docile it def didnt have the personality of a beardie.

Wow thank you all for the great responses. The reason I ask is because I see a lot of opinions on different lizards and was wondering myself if there was one that stood close to the temperament of a beardie. I realize the question is somewhat subjective but I think it is safe to say for the most part beardies are very docile and filled with amazing personality. I actually own a Leo as well but it is hard to tell how docile he will or can be because he is extremely small and young yet.

I love my beardeds the most, but my Savannah monitor is right up there personality wise. He is so smart!! Also super sweet, very laid back guy. He loves to be out, cruise around and mess with my dog haha. He is deffinately very interesting too, but man, I thought beardeds could eat! Haha. All in all I think almost any lizard could be a good pet with some time and effort. I also have a bearded that you would think was a killer bearded haha, inguess it comes down to the actual lizard too lol

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
