Blue tongues are not as docile as a beardie.
I disagree. And I'm replying to this because if I was researching BTSs and I somehow came to this thread, it would kind of be a downer to see this and think I'll never get a nice skink. It's a fact that there are beardies that never "tame down." There are exceptions everywhere. =) I have two tokay geckos(that are supposed to be "the pit bulls of the gecko world") that would not bite me if I poked and prodded them. I have one crested(supposed to be extremely nice lizards) that will try to rip my finger off if I handle it any way that it doesn't like.
In my opinion, if you want a "tame" or "docile" lizard, you have to work for it. Beardies sometimes may be laid back and very tolerant of us when we first get them, but we still have to establish a relationship with them. If you get a new beardie, more often than not will they show a defensive behavior. Biting might not be their first defense like others, but they still need time to tame down. Which takes time and patience in some cases, just like any animal. =)
I have a few more suggestions. If there aren't space, money, or time issues(the bigger ones take A LOT out of a person), I've heard of different species of monitors, big or small, being really great pets. Also there are tegus, all sorts of skinks, leachianus geckos, and other kinds of "larger" lizards that can be quite the pet. =)
