how far away does my dragon need to be from his basking spot it seems like its hurting his eys. he like 6 inches away from it

It depends on what UVB light you are using and what temperatures you are getting to determine the distance.

Usually the basking light and uvb lights are together over the basking area, that is why I asked.

I don't think it matters how close or far the basking light is, only what the temps are that are given at that particular distance. If your temps are good, then it isn't too close.

Can you elaborate on this just a little?
What is it that makes you think it is hurting his eyes?
And what are you using for a basking light?
Is it a white light or colored?

his eyes are like half open to me they are maybe they are not im not sure. i try puting the uvb light fixture as close as i can to the basking spot i dont want it to get to close that it will burn it. it is a white basking light i bought it from a pet store but i dont remember what type it is thank you for helping maybe i am just freaking out maybe he is fine i just thought he had to be so far from the basking spot but i have seen pictures where dragons were like 2 inches from it

His basking spot should be 6 to 8 inches from the lights with the UVB your using.

Do you have the ability to take pic's that you could post so we could see
just what it is your talking about with his eyes?

I'm also wondering when did he last shed?

In another thread, you mentioned that you're using the Repti-Glo fluorescent bulb. It's important that we find out which one you're using because the distance to your beardie is different for each bulb.

i am using the repti sun. i wrote in another post that i was using all 3 to see how well they do and dont work to find out myself because i was confused on everything

Sorry I'm confused are you using just one UVB the reptisun 10.0?
Or are you using more than one source of UVB.

So, you're using just the Repti-Sun 10.0 fluorescent now, right? The reason I mentioned that the distance changes depending on the bulb is because there have been some issues when using the Repti-Glo 10.0 fluorescent. Because of these issues, we always recommend it is no closer than 10" from your beardie and that it is placed right alongside a bright white basking bulb. With the Repti-Sun 10.0 fluorescent, it can be 6 to 8" from your beardie when in the basking spot since it is a safer bulb. Hope that helps.

We don't recommend the Repti-Glo 10.0 because of all the health issues associated with it and I personally will never use one. But, if you have to use one for a short time, the safest way is using it the way I suggested. Please clarify what you're using for the UVB.

Personally if I had a better product than a reptiglo...I would use it...and throw the reptiglo away. :wink:
