Hi, I'm getting my Beardie verry soon, but my uncle will be away and unable to give me the 55 gallon tank, all i have is a 10 gallon. will a 10 gallon surfice for a week or less? :?:

How big is the beardie? If it's a baby, that should be fine for a week. It just means you might need different strength lights because the tanks are such different sizes.

the only problem with a 10 gallon is it is often hard to get the temp gradient you need for a bearded. and a 55 gallon isnt really good for a bearded either because its narrow. it wouldnt work for an adult.. something with 6 ft of floor space is better. i have 2 ft by 4 ft enclosures that i use.

I had a 10 gallon tank for my beardie when I first got him. it was practically impossible to regulate the temps in there. Mine lasted a couple weeks in there and was moved to a bigger tank ASAP. So please make sure you find another tank ASAP.

http://www.craigslist.org I got lucky and found people in my area selling aquariums that I could use for Bowser. any classifieds like this will help. Buying a big tank from petco is going to run you a lot of money. So i suggest either building your own or getting a used one.

According to Drs. Foster and Smith, there is an easy way to find out if your terranium is big enough. Measure your beardy from nose to tail. (My beardy is 7" so I'll go with that) The height should be at very least as long as he is (7"), twice as long as his length (14") and the width should be 2/3 of his length (4.5"). This is the very minimum your cage should be. Bigger is better as long as all dimensions exceed these requirements.

An adult bearded dragon needs at least 6 square feet of floor space but most people will recommend 8 square feet. I'd say as long as you figure out how to set the temps up correctly, that they'll be okay in a 10 gallon for a week or so. When I rescued Kieran, I was unprepared to keep him so I only had a 10 gallon. He was in it for about a week. So I think you'll be good. Just get him/her into the larger tank as soon as possible.

I was just repeating what experts say. Plus an adult beardie can get to 24" so that means it would need a 48" X 12" X 24" tank, and according to the convertor on this site that equals a 59 gallon tank, which fits perfectly with the standards. If a herp says those are the specifications, I believe them so it adds up. Plus these are the minimum standards. These are the minimum requirments for space it needs to survive, not thrive.

as fast as a baby grows i wouldnt recommend sticking with the minimum requirements. they grow too fast. and within sometimes a week those requirements would then be too small. thats why i would just recommend getting the size you would need for an adult so you dont have various size tanks and spending all that extra money
