Looking for anyone who has dealt with tail rot and how to treat it. I've been having trouble with my humidity. Thanks for any assistance. :banghead:

Hello,

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with tail rot. I haven't personally had any issues with that, thankfully but a lot have so I am sure a lot will respond.
Do you have any pictures?
Are you keeping a moist paper towel in the tank, or a water dish for a portion of the day in the tank?
What are the humidity levels at right now?

You can use an antibiotic ointment on the end of the tail if needed. Has it begun traveling up the tail?

Hello Tracie!
Yes, the rot has started to travel up his tail. I do keep a water dish in the tank. I need to get something to give me the reading on the humidity (getting that today). I've had these two dragons for 5 years. Both were rescues.
When you say to use antibiotic ointment, are you talking about "neosporin"? I have a lot of pics of my beardies. I just don't know how to upload them on this site. I'm kinda new. Thanks for responding.

You can share photos by linking them from a image host like photobucket or tinypic.

If the infection is beginning to travel up the tail it may be a good idea to take the dragon to a good reptile vet. Pics will help folks here advise you, but depending on the severity home remedies or topical antibiotics may not enough and the infected tissue may need to be amputated.

Thanks for your response. The humidity is between 30 and 40%. I've been thinking about heading to the vets already. I don't see and necrosis to his tail but we'll see what the vet says.

Hello,

I am sorry that it has traveled up the tail some.
I was referring to neosporin or polysporin either one. Were you able to get to the vets for them to take a look at it?
The humidity should be fine at 30-40% or so.
How is he doing today? Let us know how things are going.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
