8 month old beardie

Hi. I have a 8 month old Bessie male who will let me pat him but not actually pick him up. I can hand feed him and sit there and talk to him with my hand in his home

Hi there, how long have you had him ? Does he try to run away, hiss or even bite ? If you just got him, let him settle in for a couple of weeks. If not, just start picking him up. Usually you can get them over this stage by putting on gloves [ if he bites, which they usually don't ] and long sleeved shirt so you don't get scratched. Pick him up firmly but gently + slowly, stay calm and hold him to your chest for about 10 minutes. He will settle down as you just sit with him, and after a few weeks [ maybe sooner ] he'll get used to being held and you can sit with him on your lap, but make sure there's no where he could jump + hide under furniture or wedge himself in to a spot where you can't get him.

I have had him since he was a baby and it has been an on going issue with him

So we got him out and held him to our chest but his beard went black. Is this normal

He's just being cranky, this is new to him but he has to get over it [ and he will ] just like a child that doesn't want to go to school. You have to be patient....he can turn in to a real sweetheart, I've seen it happen myself.
