150 watt basking bulb burst!

My basking bulb just randomly burst and shattered and started smokin out of the blue!!! Why? Thanks

Wait...what?

Probably just cracked because of a defect within the glass. The smoke was from the incandescent filament burning up in the oxygen rich air.

Yeah I tried looking it up and found nothing. Went down and gOt a replacement and they had never heard of it happening before. Freaked me

HAHA :lol: Yeah, about the best answer you'll probably find. There to no real rhyme or reason why these things happen, they just do. Keep your receipt, places like Lowe's will give you a refund/replacement for a bulb that didn't last the hours advertised on the package. They get credit for the return if within 90-days of purchase. Can't tell you the times I have replaced my plant grow lights, but coming from a retail background, I don't abuse the system. If I go through two bulbs, lets say 12,000 hours is the guarantee, breaks/burns out at 8,000, next one lasts me another 8,000. That's 16,000 total, I got my 12,000 collectively, so I'll buy another bulb.

The only thing I can think of is if you were misting your dragon in the cage (I did that once with frogs and the bulb shattered on both me and the frogs). Otherwise, who knows.

Yeah I took the whole bulb and fixture back and they straight across exchanged it. This is our second one in a week. I haven't been misting him in the terrarium, I usually use a dropped with water. After it shattered, we gave him a bath for the very first time
