You do not want the entire length of tank --- they need to be able to escape those rays if they want to- a 24" fixture is good unless you have a realllly long tank

Just like a temperature gradient, you want a UV gradient too. That's difficult to do if the uv spans the whole tank which is why we recommend half- 3/4ths of the tank.
Hmmm I have a 40 gal breeder 36 x 18 x18 w a 36 In uvb hood on top t5 10.0.. My dragon has been hiding alot and eating very little hes only 5 or 6 months I've had him for a month and while he is not losing weight yet he hasn't gained any either i thought it was juvenile brumation but is it possible it's because the uvb is so powerful and should get a shorter on maybe 24in

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
