I have heard conflicting opinions from all sorts of people regarding whether to use a 10.0 or 5.0 UVB. I use ReptiSun lamps and it's coming time again to buy a new one and I need this settled once and for all.
Hi. The Repti-Sun 5.0's really aren't strong enough for a bearded dragon. Your best bet would be to use the 10.0 and to have it 6 to 8" from your beardie. Make sure it's the fluorescent bulb rather than a coil/compact type.
That's what I was always told and it is the flourescent bulb at the right height but I had someone tell me that the 10.0 was way too strong and was going to burn out my beardie's eyes. I was pretty sure that wasn't true but I was just making sure. Thank you for your help.
Oh my goodness, I hope you didn't get that info here. It's important to have a bright white basking bulb alongside the UVB because otherwise it can cause eye irritation. Good that you have the fluorescent and at the right distance too.
no, I was told that by someone at a reptile expo. It bothers me a lot because I was positive she was wrong but I wasn't really in the mood to start an argument. At least she was only selling lizard food and not animals or anything, otherwise I would definitely had said something.
You're right, it's a good thing they were only selling food although giving that advice to any reptile owner is just SO wrong. I'm glad that you came here to get the right answer.
Im needing some questions answered about my female beardeddragon, I honestly have no idea on age , she was a recuse, as ive had a couple in my life an have experience. I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
