The new batches are supposed to be 100% safe but you will still have a chance at getting one of the ones that was manufactured badly since there is no true recall so just make sure to check the series stamp on it and to watch your animal initially to ensure there are no problems. Also be sure you stay within the distance requirements or they will experience issues regardless.

You may want to contact TRex directly and see if they can point you in the right direction of a distributor in the area. You will have to wait some time most likely because they may be back ordered.

Thanks for posting that updated info Vicky. I'm very happy to see that something is being done and changes are in the works. I did a search for the 100 watt Active UV and noticed that Petmountain and several other sites are showing that this bulb is "out of stock" so it seems like T-Rex has put a hold on them which is certainly good news.

Did he give you any dates of when the problem bulbs were manufactured or if he knows of any other problem batches besides the J1, K1, L1?

Well at this point I dont think they have an actual date as to when new bulbs will be available with that said there are probably alot of places where you can still get the older stock that was made previously as well(in the smaller pet shops I suppose).I am pleased that petmountain is showing out of stock because that means Alan got in touch with them quickly.

As for which batches were affected Alan was going more in regards to the info I was giving him becauae Westron only advised him of the L1 issue and not the previous batches.

As for when they were produced I am not 100% sure of that but next time I speak with him I will ask him.

Where does it say what model mine is? On the cardboard suporter on the inside kine say K2 but on the bulb it says K1. I know the K1 are bad so what should I do? This is already my second one the first one was bad and my beardie wouldnt open his eyes so the place where I got the bulb from (LLLREPTILE) gave me a new one (this one). When the old bulb was bad I called t rex and they told me they werent haveing any problems and that lllreptile will replace it but t rex wont.So what should I do? Thanks

Ok the stamp on the bulb is the one you want now are you referring to 100 watt or 160 watt? You see the J,K,L is for the 100 watt the series may be different for a 160 also they have not seem to have had but a very few problems with them(2 or 3 I believe). Did you actually try it yet or are you afraid too? As for TRex replacing they willl now. Also how far away was the bulb from your beardie?

It is a 100 watt. I haven't tried it yet and don't want to if the A1's are bad. My old one was about 12 inches away. Should I call T-Rex?
Ok I am confused is it an A1 or K1? If it's an A1 then your good to go if its a K1 it may be affected but it may not be.You would know within a day of use if it was beginning to bother him and yes at that point I would call TRex.

Hello, everyone.

Yesterday I had a very encouraging email exchange with the President of T-Rex Products, Alan Botterman. He has confirmed with me, everything that he has told Vicky, Jordan and Christine; and he said "The forum folks have been very helpful in our discovering the unfortunate case of our bulbs being wrapped up in the problem." - so that means you! :D

He has encouraged me to put word of the situation on the front page of UV Guide UK, which I have now done, alongside the info about the ReptileUV lamps. He confirmed that anyone concerned about a T-Rex lamp should first email T-Rex using:
[email protected]
for advice on returning a lamp.

Both 160W and 100W Active UV Heat Flood lamps were made in batches JI, KI and LI and problem lamps may be found from any of these batches, made since October 2009. These are all the same batch numbers as the affected ReptileUV lamps. The factory appears to use the same numbers for all products at a given time.

T-Rex are not selling or distributing any more lamps until new stock made in the "original" glass is supplied, but if you return a lamp, you will get a new one when these become available. (There may be a considerable delay, of course.)
Alan will be sending me samples of these to test out, when he gets them. He's also sending me samples of their new "economy" lamp.

I'd just like to add my thanks to Vicky and others who are working hard to keep everyone posted on the situation.

Hello,

That is superb news! I am so glad that the president of T-rex has stopped selling the lights & is going to be going back to the original glass they used. I know that will take some time to get new ones manufactured, but, at least they have made the effort now, that is great to know!
It is too bad that all of this happened with the Megarays & the T-rex. I am happy to hear things are getting straightened out now.
Thanks Vicky for relaying all of the information to us.
Frances, thanks for doing the testing on them too. Let us know what the readings are, when you can.
