Temp Range

If the temp range within the enclosure is wider than needed (say 120 at hottest and 75 and coldest) is that a problem? or will he just know how to thermoregulate and avoid the too hot/too cold areas of the cage?

Where abouts in the enclosure are you getting 120 degree temps? Is that on his basking spot?
What size enclosure do you have?
What type and watt bulb(s) are you using?
What type thermometer are you using?digital w/probe, stick on type or temp gun?
What is the distance from basking bulb to your beardie?

The temps should range between 95-110 on the basking side and 78-82 on the coolside.
If the temps are too high it could cause dehydration in your beardie. How old is your beardie?

If you can answer these questions, maybe we can help you get the desired temps needed.

ok, to be honest, the question was more theoretical as I will be setting up his enclosure next week (52Lx21Wx24.5H) built by custom cages. I have him now temporarily in a 29gal glass tank. He is (i was told by breeder) about 2months old and just under 7".

i'm currently using a 60W Basking Bulb with his branch of wood coming within about 6" of the bulb.
The opposite side of the tank doesnt seem to really be much warmer than room temperature as the top is just a screen cover. A Zilla Digital Thermometer/Hygrometer read 120 at the tip of his basking branch (doesnt seem that hot to me there, but i'm not a thermometer). He does get a bath every day so i think that should help with his hydration (just got him sunday so he is not yet eating due to relocation stress).

I am not yet sure how everything will work out in the new enclosure till i have it all set-up, but using the current temporary setup as an example, getting a stronger bulb will just raise the temp of his basking spot and getting a weaker one will give off less heat to the rest of his enclosure. Is there a need to lower his basking spot further away from the bulb? or would he know on his on how close/warm he needs to be and only climb to that height to bask? and as far as the cooler side, if he gets too cold, would he know to just hang a little closer to his basking site where he'd be warmer?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
