funny i changed from sand to tiles, Juju never really digs much. But i changed from tiles to sand because I consider the tiles harder to clean than just scooping it out later when it dries. meh.

Actually, I lied. I have about a foot and a half worth of tiles, on top of play sand, and then the rest of the tank (about 2 and a half feet) with play sand. I keep the tiles in there so he can sometimes file his nails. (such high maintenance )

You could try adding a pile of rags/cloths in there for him to burrow around in (some dragons like that), or make a removeable sand box for him to dig in.

Agreed, crushed walnuts are a bad idea.
