Yes it is sand, they do not lick things very much anymore, that is why the sand is in there. They eat in a 20 gal aquarium.

They started off as babies, we have had one of them for about 4 mths now and the other for about a month. They are both about 6 mths old.

One is female and the other is a male. Male is 9" long with a stub tail. He was like that when we got him. The female is pushing 13" long.

That is a beautiful viv, the half and half setups with sand and clean saad areas are a great idea.

As a point though females should really not be bred until they are about 18 months of age. It's kind of like a 10 yr old girl that starts her monthlies, technically she can conceive but she should definately not be carrying any kids to term at that age. Dragons are the same, they need to finish growing. Males also can be more suseptible to suffering a prolapse if they breed to early.

It really would be kinder on the lady to seperate her out at least till she is old enough to carry eggs with getting into danger of eggbinding or calcium depletion. Wether you want to be dealing with 7 or 8 clutches of up to 30 eggs per clutch at that point is a whole different story. There can be stress caused by a constantly eager male wanting to breed all the time. In the wild they come together and mate once then they go seperate ways. She hangs on to the sperm in an internal pocket which is then used to fertalise all her clutches for the season from the one mating.

They are 6 mths old.

They seam to be getting along good right now. A good breader said they would be ok in the same VIV. There has not been any issues. I will bring this up with the breeder and see what they say.

The sand in my opinion is good for them cause they like to dig and sleep in it at night. They eat in a separete aquarium too.

The VIV is made from:

8 2'x4' sheets 1/4" thick
1 2'x4' sheet 1/8" thick
1 2'x4' sheet 3/4" plywood

some brad nails, glue, 1.5"x1.5" 8' long boards cut to size

There are actually 2 viv's in one, there is one above that one that houses a Desert Iguana. (may be selling)

Total cost for materials,(not including the lights, dimmers, wire) was 88$
Time to build, one day

Total cost of set up, including plants rocks, lights, $500

Total cost of all three lizzards $430

Watching them play.... Priceless

At 6 months old they are going to hit puberty imminently. Once they are both sexually active that is when you will start having probems.

She is too young to be carrying eggs. It robs her body of calcium to create the shell and she is still a growing baby herself. She needs that calcium and energy to grow herself.

I have to agree with Morkai. Your male and female will be hitting puberty shortly and will be ready to breed. Your female is way to young and will suffer if she carries eggs. Plus she may receive some injuries during the breeding process along with no break in the constant breeding. Hope she's able to survive it and that you are ready for possibly 100 babies.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
