$200 isn't bad at all! In the past two months, I've spent well over $500 at the vet. :p Bad couple months with the snakes.

Wow Jacqui!
I completely missed this post until now, but I wanted to say good luck and congratulations.
Also, no one mentioned this yet, but make sure that you are washing your hands and even changing your clothes in between handling your dragons. It is very likely as you suspect that Gem has parasites and some of them, from my understanding, can attach to your clothing then be passed from dragon to dragon. I know this is a pain and more laundry, but it's better than having two sick babies. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong and parasited cannot travel on human clothing).
Sara
It depends on what kind of parasites they are. Internal parasites (coccidia, pins, etc) can only be spread to you through feces or something that has been in feces. External parasites (primarily mites) can be spread through contact. In either case, I agree, be really careful about keeping yourself (and Gem) clean, easpecially when you handle MoMo.

Like I said before, I make sure I wash my hands after I move Gem (cause my hands feel weird afterwards anyway, and I'm really conscious of dirt and stuff, I freak out after I hold her knowing she has parasites, I feel like they're crawling over me and stuff like I do with tiny crix.... gah!) and I don't hold MoMo unless it's absolutely necessary. I don't even come in direct contact with MoMo's food anymore.

In other news, Gem is getting it into her head that I'm really NOT there to eat her. LOL! She let me hold her, but she gripped me so hard with those huge claws that I had little claw marks on my arm. Fun.

We have a vet appointment for tomorrow, at 3:00p.m. with a reptile specialist who has experience with dragons. Then we're going to Herpeton again for some goodies! I have to pay for the vet though, with the grade money my dad owes me. I think he owes me like $250 or something so it shouldn't be a problem.... I would've volunteered my money anyway....

So far I need UVBs, day bulbs, a power strip, and bugs. Plus whatever else I see that she could use. :D

LOL...glad to see you finally got rid of those darn things!

Jacqui.....in answer to your Hibiclens question. I had never heard of this before, so I looked it up and it seems that it is used just like the Betadine. It is an antimicrobial antiseptic. Antimicrobial is any substance that kills or inhibits the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, etc...

Hope that helps!

Glad to hear Gem is starting to warm up to you! :D

Thanks Dawn!

The thing on her foot is definitely hard, and doesn't seem attached to her foot. I can move it, almost like you can move your kneecap.

She's currently wrapped up in a towel on my lap. She keeps dozing off, then remembers where she is and wakes up with a jolt.

Gem seems to have dirt in her nostrils. How would I go about getting that out?

take a cotton ball and dampen it, then dab at the nostril, in a downward motion.
Orion decided one morning to investigate the dust bunnies under his viv, and well you guessed it, he got all bunnied up ! That is what I did, and it came off easily.
With Gem girl, you might have to do that a few times before it all comes out. Also when she sheds next, the last bit will chuff off.
Hope this helps out !
Didya see the part about the suns, Jacqui ?

Ahhhh, the dreaded dust bunnies. My cat does the same thing....

Yes, I read your offer. I'll definitely take them if your first buyer isn't interested! :blob8: :D I need new ones anyway.

Jacqui, I wonder if it could be a cyst on her foot, that would be moveable. It isn't hot or red at all, is it?

Nope. It reminds me of the bump I have on the inside of my middle finger from all the writing I do-- the pencil chafes against my skin, and creates a big bump. It's very hard, not at all squishy or anything. She lets me touch it now that she's used to me poking and prodding her, and it doesn't seem to hurt her like I thought it did.

Hmmm.... I guess we'll have to see what the vet says tomorrow.

I put Hibiclens on her sores (very diluted) and some scabs and what seems like dirt came off of them. They're pink again, as opposed to the red they were. The ones on her lip, of course, I'm not touching the one on her foot, as there doesn't seem to be anything I can do for it. It's covered with her own scales.

Sleepy time for the big girl! She's in a towel on my lap dozing off.

Hello Jacqui,

Hm, so the vet will do a bloodtest then for that $200 or so?
I hope that the foot is not swollen due to gout. That was my first thought & was why I asked for a closeup shot of the foot. Is there any other extremity that looks to be swelling? If not, that is an early sign of kidney problems & will need to be addressed. If it is gout, then she will need to be on gout medication, for life. It is no big deal, but, will need to be given consistently to keep her from declining. I can advise you on that as I have been through that.
When do you think you will get her to the vet, next week?
How is she doing today? She looks pretty happy though. You are doing a tremendous job with her. Did she enjoy her bath as well?
Continue to keep her hydrated as best as you can.
Let me know if you have any questions, or anything especially regarding the gout issues, & medications, doses, etc.
Gem is very lucky you found her!

Tracie, she has a vet appt for tomorrow at 3:00, so that's certainly good.

Yeah, overall her treatment will be about $200 or so.

Does it look like gout to you? No, nothing else is swollen. I wouldn't doubt it's kidney problems if a yellow tongue looks like a liver problem!

My vet appointment for her is at 3 o'clock tomorrow. They got me in quick with their reptile specialist. He said that they've turned many a beardie around, so I'm feeling confident here....

She seems extremely confused by the bath. She doesn't get it. A year and half without a bath ever, I'm not surprised. She eats babyfood like a champ, trying to swallow the whole syringe!

So what could've caused the gout, if that's what it is? Is it hurting her, as in, is she feeling pain from it? Do you really think gout would be like a movable lump beneath her scales?

She's out. Silly girl has been trying to sleep since 7:30. Gem seems to like it when I talk to her.

Oh, yes, and she's been closing her right eye lately, moreso than the left. I'll get that checked out too.

I can't vouch for dragon gout, but human gout HURTS! and the swolen area doesn't move. The pain and swelling resembles arthritus a bit, but with more soft tissue swelling too. If you can touch it and move it I'd bet against gout. That is unless it doesn't hurt dragons the same. :dontknow:

So glad you got her an appt so quick. That's great. And she fell asleep on you? Awww...how sweet. The Dragon Whisperer strikes again!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
