Digging

Does anyone know why my bearded dragon just starts digging randomly for a whole day a couple times a month? I think it's pretty weird but I love that!

Hi there,
Beardies often dig because they want to find somewhere safe and enclosed to sleep.
It sounds like he would definatly benefit from a hide.

Dexter used to dig at night untill I made her a hide.
I made a temperary 'makeshift' hide whilst I try (and fail a few times) to build her one from wood. All you need to do is get a shoebox and cut a small door into it. Inside you can add a section of towel/flannel if you like. I did because my dragon loves soft surfaces and dragons do like to feel surrounded and safe whislt they sleep.

As you can see it takes 5 minutes to make!
Build her one and pop her inside/half inside on the first night as she might be too much of a fraidy cat to explore it herself.
Dex took to hers like an alcoholic to a good scotch.
She also stopped digging and seems happier.

Another question would be, Is your beardie female?
If so how old is she and has she been in contact with a male?

I am not a 100% sure but I think it's a male (he's 6 months old). At first he was only digging during night (and it was really annoying) but for the last 2 months he stopped digging at night and started doing it only during the day. But thanks for the advide I will try building him a little hiding spot, your beardie seems so happy in it! :)

Dex was exactly the same. First only digging at night then starting to do it during the day too.

I'll try and find a link to the sexing article for you.

Do keep us updated on your little one x

Tiny likes to huddle under her "lizard blanket" also. I thought it was because she moved to a larger cage and was a little scared about it. I guess not.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
