Make sure you do your research first. :study:
Determine whether or not you can take on the huge expense that comes with housing, caring and feeding all the dragons.
It aint cheap at all....

Question?...What are your reasons for breeding ?

At this point and time there really isnt a how to article. I started with reading general care books, then I came on here and read the breeding section. Then i started sorting out fact from fiction from BS, with common sense as a guide. Then I started asking questions. Breeding dragons in my opinion is more of a process than a system. There is no 1 way to due things, each dragon is an individual. I have males that will only breed certain females and vice versa. So im always learning or trying something diff or new.

I would not suggest having a colony setup. Each need their own home or else the male will breed the females over and over essentially killing them in the long run due to the tole producing eggs takes on a females system.

Also, it is never a good idea to breed dragons that you do not know the bloodlines on. For all you know they could easily be direct relatives.

I know the expense.I have crickets, mealworms, and superworms that I breed.I wan't to breed them to a,support my hobby and b, sell bearded dragons without the ridiculous prices you get in the pet stores around here.

The guy I am getting them from breeds snakes and lizards so I'm sure that pair isn't related. My female looks nothing like them (shes like a tanish/white color and they are like a dark brown.idk if that means anything)

If you want to make money then you should get a job, breeding is going to cost you TONS of money. You will need to buy and incubator and extra vivs for the 10-30 babies, extra lights and UVB. You need to have money set aside for vet money in case something happens to the mother while laying or any of the babies. Babies can't eat mealworms or supers so you would end up paying for pinhead crickets (I only had 3 young dragons at once and they went through 400-500 per week! Any breeding whether it's reptiles or dogs, should only be done for the betterment of the breed, that's very clearly not the case here as you don't seem to know the basics about the pair that you are getting...please reconsider....

They're just trying to help and more than likely they're breeders who have been there and know how the costs can amount up.

To be fair though, I don't know how much babies go for over in America but over here the market is really saturated with them at them moment and a lot of breeders are having to sell babies for £10 which is around $20 and they're like Citrus beardies etc. Even Leatherbacks are getting cheaper and cheaper now that more people are breeding them. Also this isn't helped by the fact that they have such large clutches and people can easily get over whelmed!! You will have to face the fact that you might also have to cull some babies who have deformities and freeze some fertile eggs if you find yourself with to many. You will have to do fecals every six months and worm them to make sure your dragons are in top condition. These are things what seperate a good breeder from an average one.

This is in no way aimed at you, I to have been researching breeding sometime in the future and this is an observation of breeding bearded dragons in general. You are also not likely to make any money with the lower end morphs etc and will have to invest in good quality stock.. It can take serious breeders ages to set up a line and healhty genetic stock they are happy with

Research and research is the best advice I can give and it also helps to picture what you want to achieve i.e I love Orange, Reds and Yellow Morphs so that's what I'll be working with

Well said Thor.
The American market is just as saturated. There are people, both breeders and others that are just trying to unload animals at this point due to sheer volume hatched. A dragon that should sell for 125 to 150 USD is now selling for 50 to 75 USD. It truley is a shame that the market is just being destroyed by volume breeders trying to turn a fast buck
Sorry for the Hi-Jack Tyler.

you asked for advice they gave you their veiws in the nicest way possible there is no need to get upset
you have researched beardies for 2 years now you need to research breeding for awhile calculate the price and then see if your job will cover it
you have to have 2 beardies that arnt related
each clutch has 10-30 babies all have to be seperated by size and temperment
all have to have UVB (19-30$) and heat lights
each baby eats 200-500 crickets a week
super worms mealworms will compact them and kill them
im not saying dont breed them im just saying think it through before you go on :study:

I'm sorry for flipping out.I'm used to forums that just give advice on how to breed them.

Anyway..I have taken your advice into consideration and have decided on breeding for hobby, not money.I will still sell some,or give them away to some local reptile fanatics.I have decided to give them a year before even trying to breed, then breed one at a time.I am going to calculate the price as soon as I get a job.

Thanks + Sorry
Tyler

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
