Why is my juvinile girl trying to jump up at the uv light it's like she is trying to get closer but it says she is ment to be 18 inchs away I can only get her 10" away but she want to get closer???
It's probably that she's just wanting out of the tank, they tend to get fixated on things sometimes. She's probably just jumping up at it because she thinks she can reach it. I doubt it's because she's feeling like she's not getting enough UV. I wouldn't worry about it at this point.
Ok cool thanks 1 more thing can any1 tell me,,, I'm useing fake plant with leaves and it droops down the back off my viv now she keeps trying to eat it shull I take it out or will it be ok because it looks nice but I don't want my girl to get I'll because it's a plastic matiral????
When she bites on the plant is she doing any damage to it? can you see where she bites? If not then I'd say it's fine to leave it in there. One of my dragons has been trying to eat the corner of his new hide, i guess they go with the theory of if it's new you might as well try to eat it.
Cool thanks I no I said it my last question lol but My juvinile girl has not eaten as many crickets as she should I try to feed them to her and she backs away about 3 fall out each time I try to feed her ( I'm not quick enough to close the lid lol) but later on she usealy eats them but I don't want to empty crickets in there coz they bite ???? But I just went to pet store and got some supers and put infront of her and she can't get enough I gave her a 10min feeding time she ate loads of supers I tryed giveing her crickets and she backed off again :-( I'm not sure what it is do you think she is bored off crickets ??
I don't know if anyone else has issues with that, but i know that mine get pissy sometimes and won't eat a certain bug then go crazy for something else. It's a pain in the butt, but as long as you feed them a variety i guess then there's always something else you know they'll eat.
Are you referring to the Namiba Terra Replux flourescent tube bulb?
Do you have the plastic cover on the light? If so, I have to advise you to remove the plastic cover as it has been reported a few years ago that the cover blocked out 99% of the UVB light. To my knowledge or Frances' knowledge they have not changed the plastic cover. So, if the plastic cover is still on, please take it off. The UVB emissions are very good with this light.
Just be sure to keep it 8-10 inches away placed directly beside the basking light for eye protection.
So you do not have a bright white basking light but you are using a ceramic heat emitter? That is very dangerous on her eyes. You will need to use a bright white basking light such as a halogen or a household light bulb. What light were you using that she did not like previously?
Place a basking light on one end of the tank, right beside the tube UVB. Here is a little example:
The reason for placing the basking light directly beside the UVB tube light is to create the basking end in which she can get heat & UVB exposure all in the same area to encourage basking behavior.
