I am going to north Carolina for a week in Aug. I cant bring his tank and I have limited space. Any suggestions I don't want to cause him unneeded stress. It will be hot & sunny there so I'm not brining Uv. Light...any tips? ??
If you have to take him I would say at the you need a rubber made container, basking light and a hide....that's IF he is gonna get outside sun light. He is gonna stress no matter what you do dragons don't like change.
Can you show what you mean by a rubber maid container and how the lid would work? Some day I know I'll be facing this. The tank is too huge, and it's a little scary being fragile. So the thought that I could keep him in something safer and easier sounds awesome.
They are made in lots of different sizes. the one i have is about 2.5 deep x 4' long so i can leave the lid off. you can pick them up at walmart or most little dollar discount stores.
If you're worried about jumping (I know I would be) then you can cut most of th center of the lid out and glue/tape some screen mesh to cover it. You can find big rolls of the stuff easily at any hardware store like Home Depot or Lowe's. Then you can use this container for outside time & travel.
We took Spike with us to the beach. Drive was about 1.5 hours. I took a 20 gallon tank and put contact paper on the sides and layed a towel in the bottom. I added a corner hide and made sure nothing would slide. I put him in the floor of my car and drove with the AC off. Once we got to the house we were staying at I set up that tank with a UVB and heat light. Checked temps and all was good. Before we went I made sure to pack his veggies and some crickets and had made sure that there was a pet store locally I could get more crickets. He did good!
