I have been lurking and commenting for awhile and realized I never introduced my babies.

Spyro is 4 months old and growing like a weed. He is full of energy, very curious, and fearless. He loves to torment my daschund. They have stare downs from Spyro's tank. The other day my daschund decided to take Spyro to the living room for play time. Needless to say I wasn't amused when I seen Buddy, the daschund, carrying Spyro! Thank goodness he didn't hurt my baby. Buddy no longer goes near Spyro after that incident.

Before I got Spyro we got Auzzie. Auzzie was a Christmas gift for my 15 year old son. She was sick from the day we got her. I took her to the vet weekly just to make sure she was doing okay. In February, I noticed that she wasn't gaining weight or growing. After another vet visit I find out she has pinworms. She finished the panacur, but still wasn't growing and started losing weight. From there I started feeding her baby food and critical care. She started being more alert and eating a little on her own. On March 11, the vet weighed her and she had gained 2g that week. We were impressed. On the 17th, she started wobbling when she walked. She didn't want to open her eyes and acted lethargic. This was about 6 pm. The next morning I get up and she has crawled up to her stuffed animal. Her breathing was very shallow and it looked like only one lung was functioning. Overnight she looked as if she lost 10g. I immediately wrapped her up and rushed to the vet. She passed away on the way there. I still question myself wondering what I did wrong. Looking back I realized that she was never well and I did everything possible to help her become a healthy, happy beardie.

On March 23, I made the mistake of going to Petco for my dogs some treats. Of course, my son makes a beeline for the beardies. The manager comes by and tells me they just got some new babies in and asked if I wanted to see them. It's bad when they know you in stores. When I go to the back and I am floored at how teeny these babies were. My eyes were drawn to my Ember. She was 4 1/2 in long and weighed 6.9g. I wasn't leaving without her. I have had her for 2 weeks now and tonight she decided to snuggle in my hair and go to sleep. This made my night.

Now I have a Bassett Hound, a daschund, a shih-tzu, two fish, and my two babies!

This is Spyro fighting the wolf. I think he won.

He really wanted to see Ember. I haven't allowed them together.

Will upload Ember's pictures in a few.

I also just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this site. I have learned so much about beardies from reading the posts.

Oh gosh!
Gotta love that they are just themselves!
I blame it on spring fever. Eri's been so intent on bobbing that he's fallen off his branch a bunch of times. I feel bad for laughing at him, but it really is hilarious!

I absolutely love your crazies :p
So cool that you get a discount, and it's great that you're making sure their animals are getting the good stuff!
Have fun at the game!

Eri sounds like quite the character! Head bobbing so hard he fell off his branch? I would be rolling on the floor laughing! You should try and get a video of him. Neither of mine have head bobbed or black bearded. Ember just puffs up at Spyro.

These crazy brats had a blast today. They absolutely love attention. Several people commented that they couldn't believe that I could take her places being so little. Ember was so calm and perked up whenever anyone came near. Spyro was calm as usual and would lift his head for everyone to rub his beard. I gave them both treats when we got home. Ember got black soldier flies for the first time. She went crazy chasing after them! I will video her next time. Spyro plays it cool and waits for them to land in front of him, then makes his move.

Thank you for looking. Ember looked like a girl for sure until today. Now I am stumped.

Very cute photo thread, you've got a new reader! It's fun to look at the photos and watch them progress, I look forward to more! :D

As for the whole gender dispute, it seems hard to tell... have you tried candling to look for the organs yet? Turn off the lights around and as you bend the tail up, but a strong flashlight that shines through the skin against the top half of the tail facing you. If you see two spaced apart black bars, you've got a boy on your hands, and if it's only in the center, you've got a girl.

Part of the pictures look like there are bumps there... but it's possible that it's just the angle. Hard to tell for sure. :?

Thanks Cenetri! I am in love with Oliver and Lola! You had sent me information to find her siblings. I want a rankins after seeing yours but the timing is a little off. In the next month I will be ready for a new addition!

I am going to try the flashlight in a few minutes. Ember is asleep in my bed right now. I'll get my son to take a picture and post it.

Can't help but laugh at this picture. HE never woke up while I took this picture. It looks like a smiley face. I am pretty sure my Ember is a HE not a she! I'm happy either way!

This morning has been pretty entertaining. Spyro woke up this morning acting like a maniac. He was black bearding and head bobbing everything! This is the first time he has done either. He was head bobbing the dog and even a garden figurine that has been beside his enclosure for months! I had to put part of a bamboo runner on the side of his enclosure because he was head bobbing Ember! Ember just sat on his log waving. It's funny because I just discovered Ember is a boy last night. We tried to get a video but we couldn't stop laughing to get a good one.

The flashlight sure helped with the decision, definitely a boy. Have to say that it does look like a smiley face. Amazing that he didn't even wake up.

Sounds like puberty has hit Spyro for sure. Isn't it a riot when they black beard & head bob at everything & anything? So, you have 2 boys, it's sure gonna be an interesting spring for all of you. :laughhard:

Spyro is full of himself today. I took him for a ride to pick up dinner. Now he is sitting in the window before the storm. He is head bobbing all the dogs and trying to jump on them. We are still trying to get a video of him to look back on but no luck so far.

Still trying to get used to calling Ember a boy. Went and picked up lots of fabric today so I can redo all the girly stuff I had made. Since it's about to storm again I may get started cutting everything out. My son loaded the cart down with fabric for me to redo Spyro's stuff and make the dogs new beds.

This is the last dog blanket my son had me make. Izzy has a bed to match. My babies are all a little spoiled.

Congrats on finding out that Ember is a boy! I can see how it's a challenge to change from calling him a girl for so long, and you have to change up his tank taboot! Sounds like a lot of work! Funny how well they can keep their genders a secret for such a long time. I personally think that the candling method is the easiest to tell earlier on, since you can see right through rather than looking for bumps that might not be showing yet!

How fun to be going through the puberty phase with Spyro, what a majestic black beard he has! I've never had any of my boys head bob at inanimate objects let alone dogs or other animals, he must be pumped full of hormones! Soon it'll be both of them going crazy!

And that's awesome to hear that you plan on getting a Rankin's dragon! They are so much fun, and it's funny when you sit there expecting them to grow to the size of a beardie when they don't even come close. Still eat just as well and grow just as quickly though! Just like little pocket-beardies! :D

 I'd have to name him/her PB for pocket beardie! Are they kinda like chips? You can't have just one! The Rankins do seem hard to find. I should wait for Oliver and Lola to have babies then get a girl and name her Vera. :D

Tonight I decided I am going to make both Crazies a basking platform. I have my list together so I can go get everything tomorrow and get started. My uncle is going to start next week building them a new enclosure. I wanted it to look like a piece of furniture so he is going to make it for me. My uncle is a cabinet maker and perfectionist so it will turn out amazing! He will take some time getting it built but I am soooo excited! :blob5: :blob8:

Now to see if Spyro is a raging ball of hormones tomorrow! Hopefully I can get him on camera if he is.

Definitely like chips. Hard to find and adorable (albeit expensive!) chips. It's quite the chore trying to locate responsible breeders who know the lineage of Rankin's dragons, some even try to pass beardies as Rankin's. It can be a hassle, but it's worth it when you find your perfect little guys!

Oh goodness, Rankin's babies! It'll be a year or more until I even consider it an option, considering age, size, timing, etc, but if all works out I should have little quarter-sized cuties scootching about one day. It'd be so lovely to have a clutch. I would definitely set aside a little Vera for you too! :D

Sounds like a nice deal having your uncle design an enclosure! And look at that, basking platforms too! I'd love to see how they turn out, especially with the enclosure being designed by a true cabinet maker, should be fancy! You definitely have a spoiled pair of lizards, they are very lucky! Can't wait to see!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
