thanks! that was before she became....uh...."well rounded" so to speak XD. Those who dislike reptiles are really missing out. I never thought any animal could have SO MUCH personality packed in! but yet here they are :roll:

Two of my sisters claim that my critters dont count as 'babies' (all pet owners/owned/lovers call their companions babies) because they cant talk (meow bark and so on) to me. They just dont understand how much attitude can be packed into ONE LOOK. Their loss. We have sexy legs, funny sleepers, and so much more <3

I have never had anything except mammals, aside from a goldfish named Puppy (I REALLY wanted a dog) and some of those SeaMonkey critters and a Grow-A-Frog, so I hadn't really considered a reptile. Not for any reason aside from knowing it would mean learning a COMPLETELY new set of rules. I didn't have a profound desire, without that I simply had a lack of motivation. That made learning about them kind of moot. Why bother? I knew that there wasn't anything to be afraid of. I also knew that some, beardies especially, tended to be more affectionate. I believe all animals have personalities and a capacity to communicate on some level we only have to learn their methods to understand. Odahviing was a surprise, and I was thrown in. Luckily I am very good at catching onto things quickly and have been very swift to pick up and understand the husbandry he needs. This has meant I've been lucky enough to understand him even more quickly then I may have been able to otherwise, had their been issues regarding so many of the things that could have gone wrong. He is able to give one look at me, and I can usually interpret, generally, if he likes, dislikes, could do without, wants etc. He has touches for "pet me." Looks for "scratch me." Wiggles for "I'm comfortable so don't move." He's a lizard, but he is as readable as one of our cats and behaves much like them.

and I too only knew that reptiles had an entirely different set of care rules that varied from lizard to lizard. I had to learn on my feet, and quick, when I found myself with a baby leopard gecko from the stockyard on thanksgiving. It was a present to me, and I have NEVER regretted it.
I learned more about them which made me MORE passionate about reptiles, which made me volunteer for a reptile sactuary (they were at petco on weekends, and i basically was there helping them adopt out reptiles and get donations) which gave me more contact and a bit more knowledge of them which ended up with me adopting one of their beardies (newt. the moment i saw her i knew she was mine and i was hers) which made me fall even MORE in love and made me want to go to a repticon and went which led me to the second leopard gecko and now here I am. -pants- One thing led to another and now I look to my future knowing my life revolves around reptiles. I dont know what I'll end up doing, but it WILL have something to do with reptiles!!

Really? I had at first thought Newt was a male because when I was picking at her shed one day I'd peeled it away from her beard and she puffed at me, and it turned a little black!
He looks so smooth and handsome! I bet hes easier to cuddle with than a grumy spikey dragon :roll:

My hubby thinks the same way! I took a super cute pic of my Bella and he grumped about how she's a "lizard". Most of the timeShe's sweeter, more cuddly and much nicer to be around
