Salmonella?

My sister had salmonella and now my mom is reducing/not letting me touching my beardies, one right now is a baby and another is an adult. Will this affect my relationship with my beardies? And will they be ok?

Hi there, sorry to hear this ! Was your sister very sick, did she get treated or stay in a hospital and was it suspected that she got it from one of the beardies ? If they didn't confirm it was from the beardies then it could have been contracted from improperly washed or cooked food. If it WAS from the reptiles then I can understand your mom's restrictions. If you can convince her that you'll be super careful about where the beardies are allowed to walk [ not putting them on tables, on your pillow, not kissing them, not bathing them where the humans wash themselves or wash dishes, etc ] and if you're careful about hand washing then it's still safe to handle them. Lots of farms and places that have a lot of animals can have salmonella in the facilities but it's proper hygiene that keeps people from becoming ill.

Still, your mom is the boss and you'll have to be in line with whatever she decides.

first time using a forum and have no clue how to post a question
My 3 year old touched our bearded dragon and then put her hand in her mouth. I'm panicking about salmonella...

Hi there, she'll probably be fine. It would be concerning if the dragon were in a filthy tank and running through it's poo and then your daughter picked her up + was playing with her before. But just touching the beardie won't be harmful.

Go to discussion forums, forum index and choose a catagory that fits it and then there should be a "NewTopic" tab at the top that will then allow you to post a thread about whatever you need to post about.

However I honestly wouldn't worry too much, of course younger kids are most likely more prone to getting sick. I sometimes eat with my reptiles right next to me or on my lap, probably not the best thing to do but I haven't gotten sick yet in the year and half ive owned reptiles properly. I dont even want to imagine what I did when i was little when I had turtles.

Id just watch her closely and if you think somethings wrong take her to the doctor or something.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
