Reptisun compact

So I know I need to replace my uv lighting but at this time I can’t afford to buy a hood and bulb. Would the reptisun compact bulb be better than pet smarts’s brand?

Or would I be better off to get a mercury vapor bulb?

A mercury vapor bulb--- the compacts are horrible- you need to get some advice on that vapor bulb- what size is your tank ?

Ok are you upgrading soon- he won't be able to stay in that tank long- w/ that size of a tank you will haft to be careful w/ wattage - don't want to cook him and those tanks are hard to keep heat correct etc-- someone on here w/ more experience will haft to help you w/ vapor bulb

We definitely be upgrading when she gets bigger. She is only 9 in long at the moment.

ok so that sounds good --- yes she is little and can stay in there for a little while longer--- I have a baby as well and hes about 8.5-9 inches long too I had him in a 20 gallon long but moved him last week into a 120 gallon tank --- he loves it --- but I was using for the 20 gallon a T 8 fixture and a reg white basking bulb - think it was a 75 watt for that tank -- it kept temps real good and the T 8 I had it on top w/ no screen - Blaze was only 7 weeks when we got him and he is growing and eating like a champ- he is eating vegies in the morning w/ 3 small supers on top w/ BSFL about 6-8 of those and yesterday he ate 15 small roaches in two feedings- and he poops in his food bowl - not all the time but a lot of the time --- :roll: ---

Blue is about 3 months old and will not eat unless i give her a vegetable slurry through a syringe and put dubias or supers right in her face. The only thing I can come up with is the uv so I’m trying to figure out what to do.

So your saying he cant see? you should not have to be syringe feeding him - do what you can w/ the UVB as soon as you can ---- you are using what UVB now? brand and bulb please

Yes, it’s pet smart’s brand. She can see. She will track it but won’t go after it if it’s to far away and loses interest. I don’t force feed her and she eats well like that but she won’t go to a food bowl with vegetables in it and eat. I do wonder if she has a neurological problem because she does some funny head movements like she’s in a trance sometimes but then snaps out of it and acts normal again. I sometimes wonder if she is disabled in some way. We got her from pet smart.

That does not sound good --- it could be the compact bulb causing issues--- hopefully this is the case and not a neurological issue like your thinking- once you get that bulb replaced w/ a good UVB lets see if she snaps out of those spells---- I would offer her greens anyway put a few small super worms and some BSFL on top of greens and see if that will attract her to the bowl ----

You can. It's not really doing much of anything really besides providing light at this point. It's up to you.
