This is my new girl, she is one of Barbara's babies from the first clutch and was born on 7/17. Her proud parents are Ms. Tiggs & PVT Blaze. As we know, all Barb's beardies are spoiled.
She had a long trip from CA yesterday, all the way to NY. She arrived 12:30 today. She is gorgeous, has orange colored eyes and is a real sweetie.

I had a problem with Photobucket, promise to put up more pics later. She had a bath, ate a few greens & a little squash as well as 2 crickets. She has been cuddled quite a bit already. And, as Barbara knows, she loves to run up your hand & arm when you try to put her back in. :D
Her stress marks are gone right now, she laid on my lap and snuggled into my hand.

Hi Kat, I doubt I will mysteriously find the time, space & money to be able to let them breed. Another thing is that I know I would want to be able to keep them ALL and that would not be good. Oh well, guess I'll just have to be content looking at others' babies, especially Belle's.

Hi Deb. Isn't that strange that Sweetie decided to change the timing of the eggs this time, guess she's trying to trick you. Yeah, would say she's just a LITTLE spoiled with only eating the white worms lol. Great that Rubio's leg is looking better.

Unfortunately, Sabrina isn't using her back legs. She will pull them underneath her when I set her down sometimes but when she tries walking, she pulls herself around with her front legs only, it's sad to see but I try to always give her encouragement. I wouldn't say she's getting worse, just not improving.

I wasn't sure if Misty's eggs were big for infertiles or not, thanks for letting me know that. Her poops haven't gotten real small yet so I think we have at least a few days to a wk yet. She won't have any part of a lay box.

Hard to believe that Lonzo will be 8 and Sweetie 5 yrs, the time sure goes fast. All of us can't wait for spring either. In fact, in a little while I'll be posting pics of what it looked like when we woke up yesterday morning.

I don't think Misty will mind me posting these pics as she was actually looking outside yesterday in disbelief too. What's even more scary is that we're supposed to get more ice tomorrow night into Thursday. So, an even higher chance of us having a power outage with ice already remaining on the trees. Some people still don't have their power back on.

Here you can see the ice build up on the electric and cable wires.

Here's a big limb that came down and broke our purple rhododendron bush as well as one of our apple trees. :( And another huge tree just missed landing on the chicken coop and pen.

These actually came out kinda cool.

Hi, Diane.

I'm sorry you have to deal with all that ice. I would be freeezzzing. I bet it's nice to have fresh eggs to eat. My SIL has chickens and we get really small eggs from her from time to time. She sells the large ones for $2 a dozen to a lady that sells them for $3 a dozen at a farmers market but she doesn't want the 1/2 size eggs. Do your chickens lay green eggs? We get them and brown eggs from her from time to time.

Barb, Judas is very sweet and loves his cuddles when HE wants them lol. Most of the time he is busy doing his strut and being his macho self. It's hard to get him to hold still long enough to even get a wt on him. Gizmo on the otherhand, is very snuggly and would be held continuously if it was possible.

I will be sure to remind you of the winter we had this year if you ever mention being cold again. Right now we're having torrential rain and heavy winds, another flood watch in effect until Saturday morning.

Hi Lori, there's nothing like fresh eggs, we have had chickens for many years. Right now we have 10 hens and 1 rooster who's a "happy camper." lol We do get some green eggs as well as pink, brown, tan and white. The color of the eggs depends on the type of breed they are as well as their diet. When chickens first start laying, the eggs are smaller but get larger as they mature. We have been having some double yolkers lately that are a real treat.

I just had one that I found (boiled) when I cut it up for the salad I had for lunch yesterday. I find them from time to time, usually from the jumbo eggs I buy. Shelly has brown eggs but for a long time she only had green eggs and once in a while white, now it's brown, green and white. She and my brother have been married for 27 years now and she's had chickens the whole time. I thought about having chickens but it's a lot of work (Bill had to take care of them when he was a teenager) and I'm not sure we still have the energy to take care of them, plus to make a chicken house and fence.

I agree, they are a lot of work but we find it relaxing watching them in the yard, picking and scratching, Our son takes care of them most of the time, they're his babies and run to him when he walks outside. They also eat ticks which there are a lot of around here. It's surprising the pretty colors you get when you color the already colored eggs and we didn't think they'd take the coloring at all.

Glad to see I'm not the only chicken fan here. We love to watch them and you can't beat the free fertilizer! How do you keep them warm with all that cold. I thought our hen house would be warm enough, but Big Daddy got frost bite on his comb and wattles. I felt so bad for him. :( I thought 20 birds in such a small closed space would keep it warm enough. Guess I was wrong. Gotta fix that by next year. I worry thay any kind of heater would be dangerous around the bedding. :dontknow:
I saw the flooding reports on the news. Are ya'll OK? And I thought we had too much rain, guess not. Stay dry.

Sandy, that's too bad about Big Daddy getting frostbite. One the coldest days and nights here, we used two 250 watt red heat bulbs, one was hung from the ceiling and the other on a chain suspended over their water and food containers. Even with all that heat, some mornings there was still a little bit of ice in their water. Their coop is quite high so the 250 watts isn't too hot for them and we still use one now. Once it warms up more, we will change to a flood light and lower wattage from there as needed.

They can indeed get frostbite on their combs and even their feet so that's why it's necessary to have artificial heating for them. We have bedding down too but never had any problem with the heat bulbs or even a heat emitter. Gee, when it gets real hot, we even put a window fan in for them. See, we spoil ALL of our critters.

We did have some flooding problems, some roads were closed and some people lost power. We were the lucky ones. It's actually supposed to be 40 tomorrow and in the high 50's on Thursday but more rain in the forecast.

Well, Misty is still running around like crazy and not eating any protein, BUT still no eggs. I expect it to be this wk though.

I guess I'll have to wire the coop. This is the first time we have had any probs. But it was colder longer, too. The red light doesn't bother their sleep? Hmmmm... Gotta try that.
We put a fan or two on our porch for the dogs and cats. Sometimes the chickens join them.

Glad you didn't fair too badly in those storms. Bet your dragons are as ready for sping as you are. :D

Sandy, you know chickens, once they are ready to sleep, nothing stops them. I actually think they like the red light and it makes them feel more secure but yet not as bright as a white bulb. We tried a CHE but it seemed to take them longer to settle down.

That's funny that the chickens join your cats & dogs when the fans are running.

Yes, we're all ready for spring here, including the humans, beardies AND chickens.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
