Pros and Cons

What are the Pros and cons to owning a male or female. im trying to choose a beardie and i wanted to know if one was eaiser to take care of or behavior is different than the other.

I think the biggest benefit of having a certain sex over the other is that with a male you don't have to worry about egg laying. As far as personality I couldn't tell you if there is a difference - I only have a male and he's great

I have 2 girls and a boy and like the above said its the egg laying that you need to worry about.
My female adult is now slightly buffer then my male she doesnt have any eggs I checked she like to explore more.
My baby female is new and timid right now.

\male is a snuggle bug he loves to be babied so I dont think their is really any difference per say except for the egg laying. They all have different personalities.

I have 2 females and they both have very different personalities and I love the difference between the two, but I can't say how the males are though... So the females personalities are a pro.

The only con I can imagine is the egg laying thing too. I really hope that neither of them do it, but I'm sure they will, lol.

I agree, Doesn't matter what you get (except for the egg thing)

My female loved to cuddle, she was very sweet, my male is independant and hates when I take him away from "fun" toys (i.e elctrical chords and dogs)
I love my Male dearly but he wont cuddle no matter how hard I try, he would much rather just sleep alone.

Depends on the personality you get.

With my boy Iccarus, he's a cuddle-bug when he's out with me. But when he's down on the ground, then the whole world is his play-toy and he won't relax for nothing. He's very docile with my daughter too. All the females I've had have been... :silent: (Ahem) and not friendly at all with my daughter.

So personally I would recommend a male before a female, but that's just me, and the luck of the draw that I've gotten with beardies. Your luck could be completely different.

Only con I can think of for either sex is when the horomones come into play. For females it's the egg laying, and for males it's the brooding and black-bearding. For me, I'll take the brooding and black-bearding over the egg laying.

Somebody recently had a male with a sperm plug - that is a "boy problem". It looked like a prolapse and she was afraid that's what it was. I had the same problem with my boy. It was scary the first time, but now I know that it's normal, it's nothing. "We've" had 3 in the past 6 months, and I'm sure we'll have more. Basically, it is unused hardened sperm that his body is trying to get rid of, sticking out of the vent after he poops. Mine poops in the bath every day, so the plug is soft when I find it sticking out of his vent, and it comes out easily. That is the biggest problem I can see with a male, and now that I know how to handle it, it isn't a problem. I'd rather deal with it than eggs.

just learned male have sperm plugs you have to deal with but atleast it's not eggs and the health effects that goes along with them.
