I just described the problem in a joking manner. It is sad that a veterinarian who has no experience does not admit this and gives dangerous advice.
This is probably because my work involves precision accuracy and I don’t at all understand this behavior of specialists in their profession.
Same here. I rebuild transmissions for a living. If I mess up I get sued lol.

If they would be able to somehow filter water out of the air, that would be news to me.

Most of their water comes from their food and if you are worried about dehydration you can use an eyedropper to give them some more. But I don't think they take up water through their skin or vent or some other way then orally.
You are correct and that makes sense. It does dry out the salads quickly but he gets them changed daily.
