Ok well Staten Island got hit pretty hard and i am without power. I have a generator which i have hooked up to my beardies tank. However, it cant stay on overnight and its freezing in my house probably around 50 degrees. Any advice?

Help! I need advice also! We have been out of power in northern NJ since noontime yesterday. No hope for it returning soon. I have a 12 and a half year old beardie and his tank is like 50
degrees. I don't have warm water or hand warmers or anything. Does anyone know what temperature can survive? He's so old! I warmed him on my body but I certainly can't sleep like that. Help!

get to the store and buy some hand warmers. wrap them in a towel and put your beardie on that

if you can, try going to a pet storm and see if they have the reptile warming packs (like hand warmers,) they last longer.

Your not understanding the severity of the hurricane. Nothing is open and it is hard to travel.

i do understand it, we just went through it yesterday. i had a similar situation.

if you cant get to the store, you can fill water bottles with warm water and place them on that.

or you can do what i did and hold them (if theyre small enough) in your hands to keep them warm.

I need to sleep. I said its only at night .. he has heat right now but the heat will be off at 12.

Do you have a BBQ that is not underwater? You might try heating up some potatos or rocks, padding them well, and using that for overnight heat. Good luck! Sending positive thoughts your way!

I feel for you ! New Jersey got the worst of it, some areas are devastated. I imagine there's no hot water available. Is there any way you can get an outdoor grill going and put a few bricks on it before nightfall ? The bricks will retain heat for a few hours and can be wrapped in a towel and set in the beardie tank at night. That's about all I can think of since you have no access to stores right now. Holding the beardie against your body in a large sweatshirt with big deep pockets could help him out during the day. EDIT....I was typing at the same time as Esther, same idea.

I can't because the gas line is some how connected to the electric. Do you think he will be able to survive 1 night of 50 degrees?

He might be O.K., but he also might get too chilled. Another thought is to put him in a shoebox [ tape the lid ] and just keep it under the blanket with you. The body heat under the blanket will keep him warm. You won't accidentally crush it because you'd feel it. You could also do the same with a small animal carrier or something similar.

Thank you so much i will try the shoe box idea.

Definitely try the hand warmers. I picked up some at Lowes the day before the storm. They come in packs of 10. They also have foot warmers.

Err, for the night, you should try stuffing your beardie in your shirt, head facing upward. S/he should be warm for the night. :D Another suggestion is to find other heat sources, for example my laptop overheats near 85 degrees, whenever I place Spike on it he seems to relax. Do you have a fireplace? Those can be extremely helpful... Good luck to all you souls in bad weather.

You guys are all so kind. No gas heat at all- electric stove and well water with electric pump. Propane on grill is out - used it to cook the past two days. Just drove to my moms 30 mins away who for have gas hot water and am bringing bottles back. Omg - I'm freaking out he is such an old man! I'm afraid driving with him will be traumatic.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
