Like mentioned you want complete darkness at night (or at least as close to darkness as you can get).
Ceramic Heat Emitters (CHE's) give off heat but no visible light. This is the bulb you'd want if you are looking to add supplemental heat at night.
Heat at night is not a requirement as previously stated. I've never once owned or used a CHE or any source of night time heat in any of my enclosures.
But then again, I also live in California lol.
