Now I get why when I have him outside and a pane flies over head quite a ways up, he freaks out as if it was right above him :(

.... this is instinctive , he sees something fly over and he will want to dash for cover and hide, in the outback there are very large predatory birds and raptors (eagles) such as wedgetailed eagles , kookaburras, crows, ravens, magpies all who take a beardied dragon, especially a small one if they can.
