switched from a fine wire screen to 1/2 inch hardware cloth on my lid. Would anyone suggest still mounting the light under the screen or do you think my dragon is good with this. The light is a T8 reptisun 10.0
That larger mesh will block less of the UVB which is good. I would still shoot for having it closer to 6'' away than 8''. If you want to mount it further away or provide better UVB levels I suggest switching to a T5 which will produce excellent UVB levels at 12''.
Well I am a beginner and unfortunately I just purchased the t8 before I knew about the t5. So I'm pretty much stuck with it for 6 months. I'm actually having a hard time getting my tank set up where he is 6 inches from the uvb and basking light with out roasting him.(basking light is on a dimmer but it either wants to be 105 or 115 so I took the 115) I'm taking the temps with a digital w/ probe..seems to be accurate.... I just purchased a reptile hammock and placed it just outside of the basking spot and 6 inches from the uvb but he doesn't seem interested at all. And I think if I put it on the cool side he won't ever go in it. It's only been a couple hours since putting in the hammock so I'll give it a few days and if he doesn't use it I will move it to the cool side and see what happens
I like that flat basking stone. The hammock should allow him to get close enough to the UVB light. They are good at self regulating and moving to get what they need so you just want to provide as much variety as you can in terms of UVB exposure and temperatures. They'll do the rest.
I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
