I call forth Alucard

As you all know, Vash passed away..so sad.
But now I got a new guy, I will send pics
here not on another thread...he's very
stressed being shipped from Florida...I
got one before he wanted to hide.

That's great that Alucard is shedding, shows he's growing. Have you tried giving him a bath yet?

Breeding crickets is a great idea. Tonja recently wrote an article about it, maybe you'd like to read it:

I have not tried to give a bath as he can
and will run and I'm afraid of the jumping.
He's pretty high at jumping. But I can
most certainly try and I know up to his
elbows..no higher. Since he is trying hard
to rub it off as he rubs on his basking log
I'm going to try it. There will be more pictures
just getting rid of Vash's I have them on
my computer so they're not lost. I will her
article on breeding these guys.

You're right, babies are fast & can run & jump quite high. If you are wary of taking him out for a bath yet, do you have a transparent plastic container with slightly high sides that you could let him bathe in while in his tank?

Take your time on the pictures, no hurry.

I do but I have to wash it out because there
were fish in it, if that won't work then there
is a bigger one that was used for Vash. How
many times per day should I bathe him or
how many times a week?

Thanks to all who is helping because this is
a hard time for me, I got used to a mellowed
out 10 year old.

A 10 to 15 minute bath 3 to 4 times a wk would be fine. You might want to put a washcloth or towel down in the bottom to keep him from sliding around & would help him feel more secure.

You're right, a big difference from having a 10 yr old beardie, we went through that too. You're doing great though and can tell that you care a lot about Alucard already.

Between Alucard and Diablo (my spiny eel)
There is a lot going on. They are both doing
the whole bug thing, Diablo not sharing crix
with Alucard. He has big crix while Alucard
has babies. Omg how dumb am I? Geez, I'm
so not smart I can use Diablo's big male and
female to start babies for Alucard. I do have
my starter bugs...havn't been able to feed him
crix because he seems not well at the moment.
I'm gonna need sand or some dirt type for their
bedding.

Yes, you could certainly use the adults to start your cricket breeding, good thought.

Yes, Diablo is about 6 months old, so I
understand the whole protein thing.
One difference is Diablo will be eating
bugs his whole life. He has frozen
bloodworms as well as adult crix if he
wanted them but he's stressed about
something so he stays in his castle.
Alucard has been eying him like he's
food, no offense but Diablo would
beat you :lol:. I love them both, they're
pretty bad looking guys. Diablo is 5-6 "
Alucard loves to watch when I do a water
change in my eel's tank. To be honest,
Vash was a lot smaller than Alucard is when
I started out with him, he was 6 weeks but
wasn't growing well so he was 3". Took him
home for my 17th birthday and fixed him well
baby food, crix, egg (one time) anything with
protien in it. He grew up with just that. Alucard
does have a belly so obviously he's fed well
with what I'm doing.

He's taking a bath in a tiny tub that I have
washed because of fish. He already pooped
on his log. His first bath, not happy he doesn't
understand he must think I was punishing
him. Picked him up and dried him off
he bathed in the tank, because I knew he'd
jump. He jumped out 4 times while I set it
for 10 minutes, 15 wasn't gonna happen. He's
basking just in case I didn't fully dry him.
Luke warm up to his elbows, but still thought
it was acid :lol:.

:mrgreen: He sounds like quite the character. He will learn to love his baths. If you wanted to, you could go a little warmer than luke warm, test the water by the inside of your wrist, not hot but not too cool either.

Sorry to hear that Diablo is stressed, hope you can figure out what it is. Funny that Alucard loves watching while you do the water change.

Wow, Vash was small when you first got him. He sure had a great and long life with you.

Fixed up Alucard (was late for lunch had to
take the puppies out) for dinner, mustard
greens with moist dragon bites and crix. He
ate most greens and dragon bites because the
crickets were walking on it. He got them too.
Right now, he's watching one of the puppies
that walked in my room and lied down. He's
quite the character all right, definitely have
a thing for watching animals. I put the new
heater in Diablo's tank and apparently the
old heater took a dump, I knew it would, it's
old...my newer one (2 months ago) broke.
Colder water must be it, I didn't realize how
cold it got.

Mom said she can get 12 more
to add to my 2 left on Tues
because she's off, so one more
day...basically, see I did make
them stretch, I'll try to talk her into
20 to add instead of 12. Silly Alucard
eating some dead ones, don't worry
crix died of natural causes. I guess
they kill each other but there is food
for them. I really hope 20 to make it
22 crix so when he's low get 20 more..
I'll be stretching 22 til I get to a low
number lie if I have to to get to add to
make it higher.

That's good that Alucard got some crickets, greens & dragon bites at the same time. So, he likes watching your puppies too.

Hopefully you can talk her into 20 crickets at least instead. :wink: Be cautious with the letting him eat the dead crickets though. Sometimes when they die, they put off a terrible rotten smelling odor, wouldn't want him to eat any of those as they could make him sick. Would be good to only feed the live ones.

Are you continuing to feed him the chicken & squash baby food daily too? They sure can eat a lot at such a young age.

Oh whoops I didn't know about
that, my bad I'll stop. It was only
2 and didnt smell bad but I'll stop
tried to stop from tipping the
dead ones out. I'll be careful next
time. Yes, I'm still doing the baby
food for breakfast and some for dinner
with crix. Mustard greens are also part
of his daily meals. Diablo is doing better
he came up to the top of castle when I
approached the tank with frozen
bloodworms since I'm gonna start breeding
crix. Alucard was upset with the cats coming
up to him and sniffing him and he jumped on
my shoulder and stsyed till they left.

oh blue, he is adorable, love his colors. Enjoy him as they don't stay that little long. I also love the name Alucard.
