Are two UVB bulbs too much?

I have a 40G breeder. I have one Reptisun 10 that spans the length of the tank. I also have a 100 watt MVB bulb for the basking light.. Is this too much?

Short answer: yes.

OMG yes way too much UVB. The MVB already is a very high concentration of UVB because it directs it into a spot.

The rule for linear tube UVB is that it should span about 2/3 of the length of the tank. There are health concerns regarding too much UVB. I am glad you asked this question. Which UVB are you wanting to use? How old are each of them? That might choose for you. UVB output decreases over time.

I just got the reptisun on Saturday. The MVB I got just last night. I'm trying to see what's best for her. Any ideas?

I'm not a fan of the MVBs but people do use them and are happy with them. I use the ReptiSUN tube. Any compact coil UVBs are subpar and should be avoided.

You can use the search function of this forum or go through the threads in the Enclosures part of the forum and look for threads started about MVBs and see what people have asked and what the responses have been.
