3- 4' viv question

Hey, I am new to building vivs and I just got melamine cut and built one, does anyone have a good way to mount a dome light to meamine top? I cant think of any simple way! It's driving me crazy! Thanks,

Most people use the ceramic bases found at your local hardware store in the melamine enclosures. If your enclosure is tall enough and you are looking to hang a dome? then you can always use the hooks that have a screw end on it and hang the dome by the metal hanging piece?
If you are looking to put the dome on the top of the enclosure, you can cut a hole in it the size of the dome and mount the dome on mesh in the hole.
It all depends on the method used. Hope this helps some....

Hi,

I have a melamine enclosure too. I used mounting hardware from cagesbydesign and bought their domes (not their enclosure, too $$$) but have since bought other brands of dome fixtures. The clamp part of the hardware is adjustable and it has worked fine with all the domes I tried so far. I particularly like it because you can tilt the lights and even try different metal brackets to rotate the light along an arm so to speak (you will need metal drill bits to make your own arm/bracket). You can probably get some similar hardware at Home Depot and save a little but I get frustrated with that kind of needle in the haystack situation.

Nice, haven't seen that before. Makes me wonder if a piece of angle iron and unistrut connectors would work?

That's where I got my other 3 vivs from, you really don't do any work other than screw them together, but there awsome cages I will post pics soon. Silicone is the hardest part!
