Are you talking about he's never been in a particle substrate (Sand, eco earth, soil ect)?. if so then good because they shouldn't be kept in a particle substrate at all.
Use paper towels, tile, non adhesive shelf liner... newspaper or repticarpet (These two are my least favorite). This way you avoid spending thousands of dollars in vet bills as particle substrates will cause impaction, prolapses, eye infections, scale rot, fungal infections, and provides a bacteria breeding ground... so even if you spot clean a particle substrate it never will be fully clean, like a litter box in a way.
