2 Quick Questions

I just have 2 Quick questions, first, what kinda sand is the best to put inside the viv. Also when building a wood viv, what kinda paint or clear coat finish is best to put on it so that it doesnt effect my beardie?

I have no idea about the paint, but with sand my answer would be none. Sand can cause impaction which can turn fatal. If you have an ADULT beardie and choose to use sand, use dry sifted playground sand. Under no circumstances should calci-sand be used asit clumps together in dragon's stomachs. Babies should not be kept on any sand because they lick everything and can become impacted much more easily. I would recommend you use tile, repticarpet, papertowel, or nonadhesive shelf-liner.

Not sure about paint. Any type should be ok. I use regular old oil based stain, there is also water based if you prefer, water based will raise the grains in the wood. I then cover the wood with a few layers of polyurethane clear varnish. Varnish also comes oil based and water based.

Oil based varnish has more solid elements, less coats are required, however it is slower drying (5 hours at least) between coats. This type also generates more fumes while drying and traps dust particles easier.

Water based varnish, is the better way to go in my opinion. It contains fewer chemicals and dries a little quicker (2 hours usually) between coats and can be used on oil and water based stains.

I also do not recommend sand but if you do use it try to use the cleaned and sifted play sand and only for adult dragons. You could use slate as the flooring. It works well for me.

Im going to put all tile in the new viv, i have that in mine now, but i wanted to put a little sand box in about 1/6 of the new viv, just as a place for him to go and dig, so i was trying to figure out what sand would be best.
