I would suggest using feeding tongs. My husband had the same issues with Rufus trying to nibble his finger.

Yes that's what I said - eating the temperature probe. Apparently Rufus thinks the probe is a worm because he won't stop trying to eat it. It's suctioned to the side of the tank and it's most obviously not alive but every day he tries to munch on it. Does anybody else have a weirdo pet? :P

You're not the first person to suggest this to me. My husband is deployed to Iraq and I am NOT handy with tools/wood/construction so I don't think this is for me.

I don't know if any of you are like me but when somebody gives me measurements I have an impossible time figuring out if the tank is the size I want. Somebody has emailed me and said he has a 55gal tank measuring: 4'x21"x12-1/2". Do you think this would be a good replacement for Rufus' 40 Breeder?

Rufus is currently in a 40 breeder. I'm lookng to upgrade to at least a 55gal but I haven't been able to find anything. What I find is either not wide enough or too expensive. I'm looking to spend about $200. I've checked all of our local yardsale & Craigslist websites and am having no luck...

You can use a basic household bulb for bright light and heat during the day and if your temps get too low at night you can use the blacklight. They NEED to cool down at night though so be sure to monitor the nighttime temps.

about 7 inches under the basking lights, lol. Its up in a corner under the lights.

It's a brand new therm. Just got it earlier this week. Roo acts just like normal. He climbs up on his hammock to bask on his own. I haven't noticed any different behavior.
