Now that I've separated my horny little babies, these are the two setups I've got. Eventually I'll find someone to build me another wooden enclosure for my girl, but for now...

100w SunGlo Tight Beam and a Repti-Sun 10.0 in the right corner, and a household 40w bulb in the left for ambient heat...

His basking temps *usually* sit between 99-105, but I can't seem to regulate the fluctuations.....

...and a 100w MegaRay SB (with a 40w household beside it) for her!

I've had a terrible time getting her temps to sit where they should be. The MegaRay WAS keeping the temp at about 104, but it's actually dropped to about 99 today, so I've put the household bulb to up the temp. I can't really raise her basking spot, since I'm already pushing the minimum 12" distance.... eeek!

Any recommendations/suggestions to improve on these? I know they look a little ghetto, but I'm just doing the best with what I've got right now!
(accidentally double-posted this...sorry!)

If you have a 100W MegaRay, the reptileuv site actually says that you can go to 10 inches. I think that 99-104 temp range is good. Do you want it hotter than that? Maybe if you moved the household bulb to the other side to brighten it up a bit, it would also warm that side slightly and would probably increase the temp on the megaray side a little too.

I'm ok with the 99-104 range, but the last day or two, I've had trouble keeping it over 99... I raised her basking spot an inch but it's still in the 99 area.... I figured if I kept the household bulb beside it, it might raise the temp to the low 100's... but it's still low! :banghead:

Hello Binger,

Just a quick question. What type of thermometer are you using? :)

Infrared PE2 Laser thermometer. (I know the one viv has one of those crappy stick-ons, but it came with the viv! :) )

So I finally got Drago's viv up, only thing that will change is the UVB will be replaced with a better looking one lol.

Thanks to all that helped me get his lighting, substrate, temps, and food right. He is much happier now.

hi :D . i like your setup, the wood looks cool. are those rough tiles or slick? if i could make 1 suggestion:

instead of lowering the fluorescent UV-B lighting you might try raising the ground. since your using tile it would be pretty easy, i'll show you what i mean;

100_4490-1.jpg

heres my first attempt at raising the ground to get him closer to the reptisun. i used old towell and t-shirts  .

100_4921-1.jpg

here i used sturdy cardboard boxes to raise my tiles. sometimes you can find ones the same width as your tank, which makes things alot more convenient. i brace the middle of each box with another small box or more cardboard just incase. if the box is too tall, use a box cutter to level it off around the top then flip it back over. if the boxs arent wide enough then find some sturdy board or surface to place atop the boxes. i found some tile samples glued to a thin board; i used the tile for my reptile cages and now im using the board it was attached to for platforms. i guess thats pretty co-incidental eh  ?

truthfully, your probably better off using an MVB if your tank is big enough to accomodate one. they put off tons of UV-A, UV-B, Heat and Visable Light so you really dont need anything else.

anyhow, i hope that helps alittle. good luck with the project  .

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
