I received the fecal results already - 3 hours - pretty good!

Thorin had lots of coccidia - she said 10 per field, and there were 2 strongyloid eggs on the slide.
Does anyone have some advice for me? I should be receiving my reptaid tomorrow, but I want to get some opinions as well.

YES I will second the advice on daily baths with ReptAid. I didn't know to do that and after a few ReptAid doses, my dragon had chalky urates and she got very constipated in a matter of days. I had to give her electrolyte baths and try to get her comfortable again. It literally took a few weeks to get her right, poor girl, and had I known from the start she wouldn't have had to go through all that. She hates baths.

I did not bring Thorin in for an appointment, just brought the poo in for a fecal. They will not prescribe anything without seeing him. Personally, I think I am going to begin reptaid treatment and see how it goes. I will do daily baths as well. I have two questions: 1) I know he is not going to be cooperative with opening his mouth. Any advice. In the past, this has been a struggle for me with other herps. 2) I only have one enclosure. What are your recommendations for cleaning it during his treatment? How often, etc. Anything else would be great as well...

With coccidia, id go with toltrazuril treatment. It is the ONLY treatment that can potentially eradicate coccidia. Other meds will only lower the count. You can get toltrazuril WITHOUT a prescription from www.beardeddragon.co It is only 2 treatments and is very easy on the system. And as an added bonus, it actually works

LOL! Nope, as you realised you couldnt do both.
The reptaid *should* help with the coccidia (I have used it to lower a count in the past) So hopefully it works out for you... if it doesnt, at least you know where you can get an alternative now

What about cage cleaning? I am paranoid about re-infestation, etc. Anytime he poops, I get it up right away and use an antibacterial wipe on the area. The I dry it well and spray the area with Healthy Habitat. My concern is with the cage furnishing, tiles I use as a substrate, and the cage in general. Any advice. I have Nolvason, but I think I read it will not kill coccidia. :?:

Best thing for coccida is steam cleaning... do you have a hand steamer?
I would take out the tiles and either wash with boiling water or steam clean them and put them away. Put paper towels in the viv and replace them daily. I would also take out any plants etc while you are treating him. If he poops, clean it up asap and replace all of the paper towels. I would try to steam clean the whole viv at least once every 2-3 days. If possible, you could also replace all of his furniture with disposable items. Shoe boxes etc can be used. Again, you will need to clean his proper furniture and rinse with boiling water or steam clean.

They are worth the investment though.... thats all I use to clean my vivs now so I dont have to constantly buy new disinfectants

Hi there,

I definitely think they are worth the investment. If you don't think so now, you will in a few days when you are spending an hour trying to clean the tank with a bleach solution or something of the like lol.

You might be able to find some good deals on one on amazon or something of the like. Alternatively you can go to walmart or a similar store and try to find one.
