Generally people shorted the light cycle down to about 6 hours a day to allow their dragon to have a "winter" with short days and long nights. This process is done before the breeding season in the wild so people replicate it in captivity. Although, some dragons will brumate, no matter what the light cycle is while others will not brumate at all.
