Now I noticed that my beardie's thighs are having small muscle spasms and the same thing is happening all over the side of his belly. What is going on??? I did not feed anything too big so I am stumped.

Please help.

Hello,

Are the muscle spasms like a twitching in the legs and sides? There is a certain amount of "so called" twitching that a beardie does normally.
I know that too much twitching or spasms can be a possible vitamin deficiency.

If you wouldn't mind answering a few questions... it will help us figure out what might be going on with your beardie.

How old is your beardie?
Are you supplementing calcium and multivitamins? How often?
What brand and type uvb are you using? fluorescent tube, compact, coil or mvb?
How close can your beardie get to the uvb?
What are you feeding?
When was the last time he pooped?

Dawn,

Thanks a lot for your detailed response to my post. I can say that I am almost positive that it is not a vitamin deficiency. He receives repti-cal w/d3 and repti-vit at regularly scheduled intervals. The twitching, however, is not normal. In appx. 15 years of keeping herps (including several beardies), I can say that the twitching definitely is a symptom of whatever is going on in his poor belly. Without answering all of your questions I will simply say that his lighting and heating are fine as well as his feeding schedule, etc. He pooped fine until this morning. He is actually at the vet right now. I am waiting for them to see him and then they will call me. We just lost another herp a few weeks ago so I want to make sure this is taken care of. My children will start to get a complex

Thanks again and I will post after the vet visit.

Ok...

It turns out, according to the vet, no impaction (the dragon actually had a movement during the exam). She claims the twitching could very well be due to the dragon having a difficult time passing the insect matter but she does not think there is any impaction. This seemed a relief until she then told me that the fecal she did came back with above normal levels of coccida and also positive for HOOK WORM! I can understand the the coccida, since it is in there bodies anyway, but hook worm??!! Where did this come from? She came from a great breeder and her crix come from a good source that prides itself on being parasite free. I guess there is no guarantee of anything. Anyway, I have to pick up two meds tomorrow which will be given orally. That should be interesting. Ugh.
