If the sand is colored there is always a chance it will stain your dragon over time.
Since you seem set on putting your animal in an unhealthy situation here are some tips.
As the sand gets dusty from the constant heat keep the cage clean by wiping up the dust generated. This will prevent eye infections from dust.
About once a week to every other week empty all sand out of your tank and scrape the compacted sand stuck to the bottom out.
This is sand that absorbed the liquid from the poop and is a bacteria bomb waiting to explode.

With all due respect I already stated I don't want to hear preaching about sand so please have respect for other forum members

Don't like it simply move on and don't reply

Those who did reply thank you

Also besides home depot and this site what other sites carry white sand and desert looking sand

I didn't preach. I asked why you think it is acceptable. It is an honest question and you dodged it. Perhaps because the truth hurts.

Can't imagine you getting many replies to help you on this one because us bearide owners who CARE enough, don't use sand...

Let us know when you post about impactions, or eye infections..

Sand is unsanitary because it harbors bacteria and soaks up the juices from their poop and urates. It doesn't matter how quickly you clean it up.. the bacteria will still be there.

Sand also collects in their stomach and intestines over time, which can lead to digestive problems that quickly kill them.

If the dust from the sand or the sand itself (combined with the bacteria from their feces) gets in their eyes and lungs, it can cause serious infections that need medication.

It is also not their natural habitat.. they live on hard-packed clay and dirt in the wild.

We certainly do have reasons.. my signature says it all. :( If you still really want to go this route, we'll be here for you when your beardie becomes ill.

This breaks my heart. Looking out for your dragon is much more important than derailing a topic. It is because people care and they are GENUINELY concerned. I also had my dragon on sand for four years and she is very sick. VERY. I just sanitized her tank again and had it tested and despite how much I had cleaned it, there was bacteria! Now I have spent $400 in vet bills and I am facing a $1,000 surgery because of this. My poor baby is sick and the sand is probably a MAJOR contribution to it. Just because it's worked for some time doesn't mean that damage isn't being done over time. It's like smoking. It may take time to see ill effects, and no-everyone who smokes doesn't get lung cancer. But why risk it?

I have gone this route since owning my Berdie with no issues and once again don't hijack topics

I don't go around in the forums doing it to others when they ask a specific question about something so out of respect I ask you to do the same.

Once again if I wanted to know the pros and cons of using sand I would ask and yes I have done my research but it is my decision to use sand as well as many other members here who have no issues with sand,so once again if your post has nothing to do with what I asked simply don't respond please.

Sorry, if I saw someone abusing a child, in my opinion, I'd say something. In my opinion, you're hurting your beardie. I am going to say something. If you don't like it, sorry. Build a bridge and get over it. You know people on these boards are very passionate about it-that's why you prefaced your topic about it. When you tell people NOT to do something, usually that is not the reaction you're going to get. ESPECIALLY when it has to do with the health of an animal.

I am leaving your thread now, but I hope that your bearded dragon does not meet the fate that others have, and that you will come to your senses and listen to the experts out there. Including my own vet - one of only FIVE in the United States who is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Reptile and Amphibian Practice who advises strongly against sand.

Good luck.

Home depot only sells the plain fine playsand. I believe the color depends on where it comes from. I found that when you buy this product it must be sifted for stones. The sifting will make it more dusty. Its a catch 22.

Positive it will not stain.
You can get testimonials sent to your email if you contact them.

I am biting my tongue, just so you know, but your question is answered correctly.

ps, just as a p.s....no lecture, OK, just did not want others to think I am ok with it, I thought you should have an honest answer to your question :)

Once again if I wanted to know the specifics about sand and the problems it will cause then I would make a topic pertaining to that

Any way if you feel like my pet is in any harm report me to PETA really that simple.

Once again please stay on topic thanks,it is really sad we have adults posting here and they can't comprehend a simple post or question asked.

Being helpful would be having a mature response to the topic and not constantly going on and on about something that has been posted 100000 times on this site

Excuse me?
The fact that you asked us not to tell you why sand is bad makes it obvious that you must know it is bad to use, or you wouldn't have prefaced it like that. We are trying to help you make a better decision for your pet. It is a lot more important to consider what is best for your pet, not what is best for you.

Many of us have LOST OUR PET DRAGONS DUE TO SAND.

Curt is DEAD.
My pet is DEAD because of sand.
He black bearded, went totally limp, prolapsed, threw up his food because he couldn't digest it due to all the sand in his system, and he died on the way to the vet.

Moderators on this site will not tolerate comments like yours. You really need to stop being rude and insulting to people who have lost their pets and don't want to see it happen to anyone else.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
