Tengu's great adventures

Hello all!

So, now my BD is 16 months old and she is at 42cm long and 355g. We believe she is fully grown and would like some advice on feeding.

Currently she gets fresh salad every day and 20 L size crickets once a day. Should we now start decreasing the amount of crickets? She LOVES them of course and salad is like a "Do I have to eat it?"

So any advice at the age she is at etc?

Thank you in advance

I'm sorry about the delay in the move, but if the car loan is paid in a year that also gives you more time to save for the down pmt, right? And a red boy, that would be interesting. Lonzo was red as a baby, but he turned yellow with black raised spots as an adult. Sometimes their colours as a baby turn differently as an adult. Rubio was also a dark red, but his adult colours were antique gold. But still, red is very nice on a dragon.

I hope you get the yawning picture, that would be alot of fun to see.

I was thinking for Leo "Hi there, come here often?"

I'm getting tired, walked alot the last 2 days on my boot and my foot is sore, so time to rest. Will talk to you later. This healing stuff takes so long!

hey there

Oh really they can change color as they get older? So at a reptile shop and they are selling for big money because its "red" and then it turns out not to be you are pretty done over right? So I guess it would be best to buy one that is older so you know it is Red?

We talked about having a girl or Boy, but what do you think the main pros and cons are about having a boy and about a girl?

yeh I bet you are tired if you haven't walked like that for so long. It is quite amazing how the body and brain adapt to a situation.

Well Queen didn't yawn for me. She knew what I was doing and gave me the stink eye for about an hour and then came forward to inspect the camera and then walked off an ate some veg! Now she is standing on her rock with her lovely eyes closed enjoying the heat :)

"Hi there, come here often?"............... way to innocent!! He is probably thinking the worst things!!

I didn't do alot yesterday, rested my leg and it feels much better today. Good thing because I have to go out.

The dragons were on their best behaviour yesterday, even though Castiel did get out of the living room because I forgot to put the barrier down. He always goes to the same place, behind the sofa, so easy to find but back in his tank he went and Nathaniel stayed out most of the day, then Gabriel. I need to get Leo out for awhile, he's been sleeping mostly in his tank. They all need to be fed today and baths, so need to get that started. Then a wash to get that done b4 the weekend.

So no yawning, eh? well you'll get your shot at some point.

morning!

Have you ever noticed that when you have your breakfast the beardie is more interested in what you have instead of what you have just lovingly prepared for her? LOL

I just made my self a Japanese style omelet and it is on the table and as I give Tengu her veg she is staring at my omelet and wont take her veg for love or money!

Is that just Tengu or do yours do that?

Mine can't see into the kitchen so I'm not sure. I have a friend who's dragon steals food from her. I think they just want what they can't have, like toddlers.

morning

Well Queen of all dragons had an interesting day yesterday. Not sure why but she had a very loose number two and it was everywhere!!! I had to out her in the "Pink prison" while I organized a team of specialist cleaners to sort it out!

She didn't enjoy her time in the pinkness but i then had to bath her as well due to her business being all over her underside.

So, off to the vet and she had just had too much water so it came out like that. I gathered when they drink water they stop when they have had enough but obviously not.

So she spent the rest of her day sulking and giving me the stink eye and not eating.

This morning she seems better and looking at me from the front of the tank obviously wanting food (crickets)

Hows things?

There is nothing wrong with them having loose poops if it's water, it just means the water went through her, mine are like that, lots of liquid all the time as they get lots of baths.

Love the stink eye, my girl gives me the stink eye every time I put her in her tank  The boys, not so much. She has it down to an art!

My day was busy so have my leg up, but going out to a friend's for awhile again. Tomorrow taking my d-i-l to my chiro, have to pick up her mom, then get to my d-i-l's house, then drive an hour to the chiro but she doesn't have to pay for her sessions, she has no income an it's paid by our national health, so that's why I'm taking her.

I had alot of fun this am, it was really sunny, so opened the balcony door (with a partition as it was still cool out) and had them all out in the sun for 1/2 each.

Gabriel sat on the sofa (it's a jewelry box)
11887-963262762.jpg

Castiel sat on the carpet except when he was trying to fight Gabriel, that's why I was standing right on top of them, so I could put Castiel back on the carpet. He is a brat
11887-4058102830.jpg

I got a nice pic of Nathaniel, he's gotten very yellow with dark side bars
11887-5751095517.jpg

Leo sleeping, which he does after I feed him. He stays under his light for most of the day
11887-2210885580.jpg

And that's about it. I'm able to stand for longer periods every day on my boot, which is helpful, as leaves at least 1 hand free, good for grocery shopping.

So I'm improving daily, today I didn't even have a nap! Need to be up early tomorrow, so hopefully will go to bed early!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lovely pics of them :) gotta love the stink eye! They all certainly have their own personalities don't they!!

Tengu is currently half on her hammock and her other half are her big legs on the floor, she is also resting her chin on the sliding door edge with her nose against the glass, very cute!!!

Definitely sleeping more nowadays for sure.

Well I have to go and get some live crickets for her (treat)

Talk soon

Hey there

Haven't heard from you in a while so I hope all is well.

Today Tengu was really weird. This morning she was freezing cold and black and really in a weird one. She wouldn't eat crickets or veg, actually no crickets for three days now.

i wanted to ask you about night time temp. Currently it is set to 20 at night time but the thermostat is in the corner of the cool side. Should I move it to the middle of the tank? Makes more sense to me because she always sleeps opposite end to where the night light is. I think she is waking up too cold.

Also my mum is here on holiday and I do not know how dragons react to a new face being around. Do they not like it?

Thank you and hope to hear from you

HI David, all is fine over here, my ankle is getting better daily, have reintated my gym membership from medical to active so have to using the stationary bike. I've walked 8 steps without the boot on & without support, but my left leg is weak, so that's why the gym so I can build up the muscles below my waist.

Plus my 60th birthday is this week & my middle niece was 14 last week, so we had a big family party at a big bowling alley (even my son and family were there, best birthday present, ever!) then we had dinner in the restuarant beside the bowling alley. It was a great time, there were 15 of us all together.

Dragons are all doing well. Had some sun, didn't open the balcony door as it was too cold but Castiel still sat in the sun. I've been having fun with my dragons, being home.

So yes, the night temps are too cold, you should get a ceramic heat emitter, it gives off heat without light for nightime, best nighttime temp would be 23, that will keep her toasty at night.

As for how she'll react to your mom? Depends on how your mom likes dragons! So if she's not frightening of her, it would go well. If not, just leave Tengu in her tank or hold her yourself when out. How long is your mom staying, must be nice to have her visit.

I'll be posting new pics on my site later today. Pics of my son, d-i-l and grandkids from the party yesterday.

Good morning

Ahh good to hear all is well, very well by the sound of it!

Interesting you say 20 is too cold as I have always read as low as 16-18 is the lowest, but I trust what you say more  I shall crank it up to 23 at night from now. opppps position of thermostat, should it be in the middle of the tank at night or stay at the cool end? As I said she sleeps at the opposite end of the tank to where the night heat is.

Last night I put it in the middle and this morning she is up and about straight away so it must of made a difference. I put the thermostat back in the corner this morning.

Well, my mum loves her!!! stroking her all the time and held her and Tengu was walking on the sofa and jumped onto her hot water bottle and stayed there a while but I read too much handling can annoy them especially new situation and as Tengu is such a princess I thought maybe my mum was annoying her, Tengu seems to like my mum though.

Anyway must dash off

Thank you for your reply

David

Hi David, glad your visit with your mom is going well and let her interact with Tengu as much as she wants. Tengu will walk away when she's had enough. Honest!

So then leave the heating in the middle at night and she'll do fine. I only mentioned the higher heat because she didn't like being cold. Dragons can manage with lows of 19 but no lower than that, then they'll freeze. My dragons like it at 23 which is where the heating is in the living room. I like a cold bedroom, so I hardly heat my bedroom, but the heat is always at 22-23 in the living room because of my geckos. The dragons are still more comfy at that heat, as I've learned over the years. 16 is way too low for them.

Hey there

So a little update. I weighed her yesterday as I had forgot to over the past two weeks due to mum visiting and she had lost 4g over three weeks. Worried me a bit but I guess during these months it is normal.
Today being the second day of putting the thermo in the middle and being at 23 she is much better already. She got up this morning and ate some veg straight away which was nice to see. She seems to like the vitamin powder on her veg. If no powder she is more hmmmmm about it.

Last night she looked very comfy and in a deeper sleep for sure. I think 20 was too low and too far away.

Let me ask you this..... when i get a longer tank, would I need three lamps? I ask because if she sleeps at the basking end where there is no heat at night and the ceramic is at the other end where the heat wont reach her isn't that quite dangerous?

Thank you and I hope all is well!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
