Tengu's great adventures

Hello all!

So, now my BD is 16 months old and she is at 42cm long and 355g. We believe she is fully grown and would like some advice on feeding.

Currently she gets fresh salad every day and 20 L size crickets once a day. Should we now start decreasing the amount of crickets? She LOVES them of course and salad is like a "Do I have to eat it?"

So any advice at the age she is at etc?

Thank you in advance

LOL

all went quiet so I had a look and she was fast asleep with her head under the rug and her body pressed against the wall!! Is that because she got too cold? I got her and put her under her basking light and shes okay but that was a little scary/cute

Just saw your previous post about Tengu falling asleep under the rug. I don't think it was because she was cold. She's have to be really cold to sleep like that. Either way, the light you put out, can you put her under it when you put her out next so she knows where it is? Maybe then she'll do a pit stop before she gets cold. Mine do that too, find a spot to snuggle up in and it's not because they're cold either. I find them hidden and it's not as if they don't know where the light on the ramp is, either. It's a mystery to me, too.

I out her under the light first so she knew so yeh mystery! She did look very comfy! LOL shes back in tank now anyway. I will let her out tomorrow as well for 30 minutes or so so she gets used to it. It is very new to her :)

It does them so much good to get out and about, exercises their legs, too. I still don't know why they hide, some days they do, some days they don't. It really is a mystery :D

Mysterious little beasts!!

Well it certainly was an early night for her! I think she was tired from "all of her walking" about :D so I put her lights out when she went to sleep which was around 18:00 so that was 10.5 hours today.

Ohhhhhhhhhh today was weigh day and she weighed in at an impressive 555 gram :) she felt heavy I must say. She seems muscly if you know what I mean, shes not fat just strong.

I really look forward to her vet check!

I look forward to hearing about her vet check. I'm glad she's enjoying her time out, mine do. Really gives them a chance to stretch their legs and use their muscles. :D

Hi there
How are you and your ankle?

Xmas is coming fast! Well Tengu has no interest in brumation this year so maybe she wont ever?

Anyway, weigh day was yesterday and she was 564g :) now she is allowed to roam she runs across the room and wow it makes me laugh the way they pick up their stomach! hahahahahahaha

I went to the pet shop i told you about the other day and the owner has a white beardie!!! So cute!!! The boys were bobbing and giving me the black beard which I couldn't help but laugh at them, and to my joy they let the HUGE iguana out for a walk and bath. He is so tame it is ridiculous and so heavy. I was allowed to hold him and just wow at his size. I'm not happy about his tank size but what can you do apart from buy him!

Tengu was too cute last night, she fell asleep on her basking rock when I turned the light off. I think she was so comfy and warm she decided to stay there :)

Awww, look at that sweet girl, she is just the cutest, all cozy and snug.

Wow, an iguana. I have 2 friends that have iguanas, they take up so much room as they grow so big! One of my friends, who lives in Wales, UK, has one and Bailey's home is 1.82 metres high, 1.21 metres across and 1 metre in depth, at least I think that's the correct size. Either way, her husband could stand in it quite comfortably when they first got it. Bailey is now .6 metres in length and will grow at least twice that length in maturity, which I think is 3 or 4 years, not quite sure. Either way, even though they're vegetarians, I still couldn't stand to have one so big. I'll stick to dragons.

I don't think she's going to brumate this year but doesn't mean she won't next year. There is a wonderful article on brumation on this site at the top under Articles, so when the time comes, read it thoroughly and then ask me any questions you have. I've been through brumation with my beardies for the last 5 years, so I've gotten used to it but I still hate it.

I'm so glad she's enjoying her free roam time. It gives dragons so much good to get out of their tanks. And yes, even fatties like my Gabriel, can tuck in their tummies when they run across a room. I have to weigh mine again, as it's been a month since their last weigh in. I might get that done tomorrow, they all had baths this am, but forgot to weigh them.

I'm doing ok without the boot on, walking on my foot can get painful after awhile, and when I do my exercises I find it a bit swollen around my ankle bone, so I'm taking anti-inflammatories twice a day & those are helping. Have to take them after a meal so they don't affect my stomach. I see the surgeon on Dec 15, so will have more news then, but won't be back to work for awhile yet. The short-term area wants me back to work right away, but until I can do the trip to work on public transport, I can't return. They want me to drive but my car is 12 years old and it's a 45 min drive each way, plus $180/m in parking fees. So wear and tear on my car that works really well right now because I don't use it that often, isn't a good thing and I won't do it. My manager at work has told me to come when I'm ready and not a minute before that. So I'll keep you posted.

It's nice that on Saturday I see my sister-in-law Annika skate in her 1st competition this year. She sycronize figure skates with 17 other women and they compete here and across Canada, so it's a great thing for her. She's 54 and in great shape and has been figure skating since she was a young girl. We're all very proud of her! Her first competition is this Saturday afternoon, so I'm looking forward to going. I see my chiro before that so will feel ok about sitting for an hour watching all the different groups skate.

Then I've been invited to a party at a friend's that evening, so looking forward to that, too, even though I won't stay very long.

Then next Tuesday I'm going to my cousin's for supper, her daughter will be 28 (she's married) and they live downstairs in the 2 bedroom apartment that's build into the basement of the house. Plus her son will be there, he's at the McGill University in Montreal finishing his doctorate. So it will be great to see them all for the evening.

I can't believe that Xmas is in 2 1/2 weeks. I'm not buying any gifts for my siblings or their spouses this year, just cards. I took my folks to a Xmas concert given by a choir my friend belongs to last Saturday, so that was their gift. I've gotten movie tickets for my youngest 4 nieces and nephews. I already sent $ to my son for him and his wife and my two grandchildren, so I'm done my Xmas shopping. I go to Annika and Dave (my youngest brother)'s home on Christmas morning and share Christmas with them. My sister is giving a Boxing Day (day after Christmas) supper on Dec 26, so we'll have alot of fun there. We're going to play board games and cards from 2p onwards, then have a nice turkey dinner. So that will be my Xmas. I'm hoping my son and family will be able to get my sister's as Monday is a holiday & my son's birthday. He'll be 33, makes me feel old!

I will talk to you soon!

WOW you have a super busy time ahead! Watch out for sulky dragons!!!

Speaking of sulky dragons.......... Tengu had a late start to the day beacuse I slept in and wow shes letting me know about it!!!! I may invest in a timer for the lights....

Yes, the Iguana was awesome! HUGEEEE!!!! I used to have two when I was younger and they were my favorite pets ever! So much personality :) They were called Jade and Jasmin :) Jade actaully laid eggs but it was at night and they died of course :( She was so thin and frail looking the nexxt morning so I nursed her back to helath with warm brocolli and love. You could tell she appreciated it :)

It's nice you have lots of family around you. I dont due to being in Japan. My mum just vistied which was nice but I do miss the comforts of home as well as the safty as in no earthquakes!!! I HATE them!

Its quite funny because most people I know are from Canada! Most of my favorute TV shows are from Canada and a couple of ex girlfriends were from canada LOL. I do like Canada and Canadians I must say. I really wanted to move there years back but it was soooooooo difficult to do back then. My old friend lives in Vancouver with his now wife. He loves it there.

Brumation........ :( not looking forward to that at all if it happens. She is such a queen already!!! I will definitely read up on it with the older artcile and the new one.

Said it before but wow she is so much better in the bath nowadays. She used to have a HISSY FIT but now she sits on rock has a litte huff and puff does her business and out she comes all wrapped up like taco! LOL LMAO

Hope you have an awesome Christmas and speak soon

So David, where did you live before Japan? You'll have to tell me. I'm a 9th generation Canadian and from Montreal originally, but moved to Vancouver in 1987, my family (mom, dad, sister, 2 brothers) moved here in 1979. So we've been here for a long time! It's great that my whole family decided to stay here, even after marriage & kids.

I'm glad Tengu likes her baths now, it's good for her to soak as often as possible, especially in the winter when we have heating on.

I'm feeling better with my foot. I'm wearing shoes in the house and that has helped my foot a whole lot, it needed the support that slippers just don't provide.

Otherwise, not much else new. I have alot to do this weekend, but quiet day on Monday. Then Tuesday see the surgeon and my diabetic specialist and then my cousin invited me over for supper and the evening, which is wonderful, can't wait.

Yes, we'll talk soon, I so enjoy your posts and hearing about your girl.

I had no idea you had 2 iguanas when you were young, that means two big tanks? I've never had the space to have an iguana, but I have alot of friends who have them and they are definitely loving animals.

Originally from the UK. Been here 8 years now!

My tank was custom made. It was 8 foot high with 6 foot for the iguanas. The rest was storage space for all their cleaning stuff etc. It was around 4 foot wide and 4 foot deep. The top had foil to keep heat in as well as a heater on a thermostat, uv light and a lot of branches!!! Both of them lived in it happily.

HUGE tank!!!

They used to claw the glass slidng door to get out at feeding time and run across the floor, claw their way to the top of my head and then throw themselves onto the plate of veg!!! I use dto love watching them climb the curtains to get as high as possible and when I went to get them they would flap their big flappy flap at me to basically say "f&%$ off"

Ahhhhhhh my girl has just go into her sleep position so I will turn everything off and let her sleep. Such a lovely girl :)

Speak soon

They must have been so much fun to live with, the iguanas I mean.

Yes, time for bed, morning over here, need to get up & get ready for chiro appt, then skating competition, then party tonight if I can find the energy!

Tomorrow going to my friend Joanne's. We ordered 1000 super worms each, so delivering her share, plus her share of crickets. That's it for tomorrow, so easy day.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
