Tengu's great adventures

Hello all!

So, now my BD is 16 months old and she is at 42cm long and 355g. We believe she is fully grown and would like some advice on feeding.

Currently she gets fresh salad every day and 20 L size crickets once a day. Should we now start decreasing the amount of crickets? She LOVES them of course and salad is like a "Do I have to eat it?"

So any advice at the age she is at etc?

Thank you in advance

Yeh on the X Ray he said its sexual time and her eggs are okay.

So yeh second opinion and blood tests are next step.

Now she's just laying on the floor of her tank under light fast asleep.

Nothing adds up! No digging, not under cool area for long time, no business, no eating.

If she committed to something like digging or cool area or stay asleep it would make sense.

Let you know what second opinion vet says

Another quick one...

So after her basking it was lights out and she made herself Cindy pushing her chin on her onxy egg. Looks dam comfy to me!

So have to go into Tokyo for an actual reptile only vet. Quite shocked by that. Get the full works done on her to make sure she's okay it to find out what's wrong.

Like I said before its just so weird!!! It's like semi brumation!!! She's thinking "hmmm I want to sleep but I'm so stubborn and nosy I can't sleep all day and night... Hmmmm I will just show all the symptoms but not commit to it, that'll make him worry s out me so I can get more attention!

Yes, that's it exactly. I'm glad you found a reptile vet, sorry he's in Tokyo. Mine is a 20 min drive away, but I gladly go there for my crew, she's a great vet and I've been going there for 10 years already.

Keep me posted.

Oh I found Cierra, she again got through the barrier on the balcony and hid underneath some old blankets. Couldn't find her last night but found her this night. She won't be getting out of her tank today at all, she needs to warm up and she'll get a bath later.

So she had her meds and juice this morning and wow she learns fast!!!!

She was much more "GET OFF ME" this morning than yesterday!! She bit the syringe and crushed it this time!!!!

So anyway she is more active this morning so I out her out under her light and she is basking/eyes open/closed/checking

I am quite convinced all this is semi brumation!

Yes, Cierra was glad to see me and get into her warm tank!

So I fed Imp some dubia but I noticed that he can't digest the heads, or he just won't crunch it, so I'm going to help him with that and he can just take the part without the head. He's always had a different type of stomach. If I was rich, I'd get him silkworms and hornworms as they're all soft worms, but I can't afford them, so I'll have to think of something else. Maybe butterworms if I can find them.

I'm going to dig out one of the blood tests I kept and write out what was tested. You can show that to the reptile expert. So different from over here. I'll do all I can. When you get results back from the blood tests, ask for a copy and then copy it here so I can see it. After all these years of blood tests on sick beardies (6 over the last 2 1/2 yrs, it happens when you rescue, things can build up) I know a bit about the blood results. So I can help, you can tell me what the vet said and then let me know, with the results. We'll figure out what to do. There is a famous vet, Shane Simpson, who is the Reptile Doctor on Facebook, who you can talk to. I've PM's him a few times and he's the vet that confirmed about Gabriel.

Keep me posted, k?

Oh and Nathaniel was still awake today, so I figured he wasn't going to sleep any time soon, so fed him today. As soon as he had his sunshine time and ramp time, he went into his hide, not sure if he's still there. But he did have his bath today, but 1st food in 1 1/2 mo for him. He might just be sort of done. When he was on the floor on the way back to the ramp, Bella approached him to get a sniff and he puffed out like a puffer fish, got the biggest, baddest
black beard and she backed away, because she's a good dog. I can leave her with a dragon on the ramp for a bit, and she's fine with them. I introduce them nose first, so they've all become used to her already.

Castiel has now been in his hide for 3 days, so not sure what that means. So I'm leaving him alone and keeping his lights on for now. After a week I'll give him a bath, if he still goes there, then I'll know he's in brumation.

Cierra is up again and has been eating 4 worms a day, tomorrow she will only get 2 and then, hopefully, she'll eat her greens. They eat slowly when they wake up from even a few days of brumation. So we'll see with her, will get her up again on Sunday am. It was good that I was home today, did the calcium and baths (it's so hot here, not as hot as where you are, but hot for here.

Imp has no fear of Bella, and after the first introduction, she's now just part of the family to him, so he'll get on the other side of the living room to here, but if she goes over to him, he doesn't startle, or black beard, he keeps his happy colours on and lets her sniff him. I'm not far away during all this but I trust Bella, I've known her for 6 years.

It's working out that Eric has a quiet place to come to. We're much alike so we get along well and he's matured alot more than we thought. It's nice to see it coming out in him, that he can talk business, that he can handle the separation and is thinking ahead. It'll take a long while before he's able to find his own place and he has alot to learn about living on his own. That's why he's in charge of himself here, I don't cook or clean up, period. He's getting the gist.

Talk to you soon, snuggles to Princess, I hope the meds are working and you figure out the weight gain. If her liver is enlarged, it can be heavier. So keep me updated, k?

We posted at the same time

She's possibly more energetic because the meds are starting to work and she's feeling better. If she doesn't want to eat, don't make her, losing some weight won't do her any harm, she has lots of fat pads to live on right now. And usual baths. But don't worry about her straining some, unless you see something like a pink bubble come out, that's part of her intestinal wall, what is called a prolapse. If that ever happens, I'll tell you what to do now. You make a sugar bath; so make a mound of suger in the middle of the sink, (maybe 2" high) and then warm water enough to cover the mound of sugar, then put her butt on that mound, maybe stretch it out a bit. And soak 20 min, just adjusting the water. By the end, the pink should have gone back into her vent. It's not uncommon and that usually always works. If it becomes continuous, the vet might need to put a stitch (only) across her vent.

Jeez, listen to me, but I have alot of medical knowledge about beardies, that I've figured out or was taught over the years from people who have threads on here. So I like to pass along what I've learned when needed.

Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Snuggles to Princess from all of us, especially Gabriel :D

I think she has done that. Just now I saw it

I'm confused with the sugar thing. If I put water to cover the sugar, surely the sugar will dissolve??

I'm going to send you a picture

okay thank you

Here are two pics. One is of the x ray and the other is of what I believe to be a prolapse? Or.......... it seems to be normal now so maybe the head of a prolapse?

So she's going to a great reptile vet in Tokyo on Sunday.

This doctor wrote a page on beardies which was published In a medical journal.

All checks as well as blood work. If there is anything wrong this guy will find out what.

I am really starting to think she is so stubborn and won't Brumaire properly so showing symptoms but not commiting.

Hmmmmmmmmm lets wait and see until Sunday! She's is currently basking giving me the stink eye!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
